When we were first dating my husband got me to repair some of his clothing for him. I patched some of his workclothes sewed the bottom back in his pockets etc. His first wife had no sewing skills at all. Sometimes I tease him that he married me to keep his clothes in order. He learned early on to admire my handiwork. It comes in handy that his first wife wasn't good at anything domestic. At least when I go out with my girlfriends he knows we are sewing or quilting not picking up guys in a bar.

That mending stuff is for the local laundry or whomever one can pay to get it done. I use to tell my kids to put it in the mending pile I'd get around to it. My son learned to do is own cause the mending pile could sit there for a very, very long time.

I don't think she does his mending either. :-)

Thanks for the laugh. Curious minds want to know the outcome.

I get it all the time also. I agree it is ignorance.

Look on the flip side - he thinks you're a young chick. That's nice, isn't it?

DH asked me once with the tone of mild indignation "just how many sewing machines does a woman NEED in her lifetime?" ...and that coming from the wood-elf himself who owns every tool known to man in as many iterations as they are available.

Hey - if one is lucky enough to live a long time - it will still be a good/fun activity!

It's one of those activities that one can indulge in for many many years.

    Enjoy!

Your right, that is something a man shouldn't say on a first date.

I told an older male friend at work that I was quilting a lap throw for some one for Christmas and he said " Women still do that now a days?"
