When I took my PP class, we used size 75/11 needle and shortened the stitch length from the standard setting. The instructor remarked that using a larger needle was like driving a spike in the wall to hang a picture. The smaller needle makes a finer hole, thus allowing the paper to tear more freely from the fabric. I have used this for all of my PP and have not had any problems, even using regular copy paper.

needle size 11-14, but not as important as sharp point...no ball points here...and i echo the thinnest, cheapest copy paper out there... short stitch lentgh...you really want to perforate the paper...then fold each section against the 'dotted line' and rip right off....

i use a microtex needle for everything very sharp a quilt teatcher got ne on to them i also do ppand also shorten stitches

I use a 75/11 needle for all my piecing, plain most inexpensive copy paper by the case from Sam's, and a very small stitch length...on my machine that's a 1.2 setting, but experiment to see which setting will work best.

I love to paper piece. Found that regular copy paper was too thick, trouble with it tearing it off the seams. One member here suggested getting recycled news print from an office supply, cheap and works good. Other papers work good too, like the paper that is in mailed packages, old onion skin etc, it just needs to tear clean. Shortening your stitch length is very helpful too.

I use a 70/10 sharp and reduce me stitch length.

I get my PP paper from the Dollar store. The drawing tablets for kids! Works great.

I was told by a quilter to use a size 10 needle when peiceing, smaller holes, and that is what I use even PP

Personally speaking, I very rarely use a needle larger than a 12, for pp, I shorten my stitches from the auto preset of 2.8 down to 1.5. You can also stitch over all the lines to perforate the paper also, do this with no thread in the machine. I've never had a problem.

Make sure it's not a ball point needle. I usually use a 14 or a 16 and make my stitches pretty small. However, too small can cause the paper to rip before you want it to. Also you might check all your tensions.
