"I'm so sorry, but I don't lend my books or patterns." Simple and to the point.

Maggie Sue, you have lots of opinions here, on different ways to handle it. As many have said, it doesn't violate copy right rules, however, since this is a work situation and potentially exposing yourself to different personalities, I would tread lightly so you can maintain good working relationships. Obviously, you are going to handle it the way you want, but that is the first thing that comes to my mind. I guess I'm more of a diplomat, LOL.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

Tell her you are planning to make more of those bags and so you can't lend it at this time. If she asks again later, use the same reason. Not really refusing to loan it, but likely shs will forget about it after while.

Tell them how sorry I am but I don't lend outside of my family and point her or him to where a copy may be purchased.

I would respect someone just telling me they don't like to lend their patterns a whole lot more than someone telling me an obvious lie, such as not being able to find it. Honesty is the best policy.

The members on this board will not steer you wrong. They seem to always have the right answer.

If I asked....I would rather hear what the name of pattern is and where it can be purchased at.
I would feel like she's pleased with my comment of nice bag but perferred not to let go of her pattern.
