Because of financial issues its "buy for each project" for me. Am still building up a stash from that and am able to use those fabrics especially the batiks. Sometimes I'll buy 2 or 3 colors because I'm not sure which I'll use, so that also adds to it.

I agree with the theory of resisting buying fabric for future use. If I have no project in mind, I will resist purchasing simply because it is pretty. There are always pretty fabrics. I have enough of a stash just from the left over from other quilts and as Iitsie stated, I will sometimes buy two shades not knowing which I will use. More fabric. I find a stash a burden and not a pleasure. From all the posts here, I am definitely not the norm.

Did not buy for the past year. Starting again with 1 to 3 metres. No fat quarters.

I buy at least 1 yard if I just like it. If it's a stripe or directional print, I buy 3 yards. If it's a fabric that I will likely use for a background, I typically buy 4-5 yards. I don't use fat quarters. If the fabric I love is on a really good sale, I typically buy more! LOL...Love my stash!

I used to buy, buy and buy. Now I buy for a project or a yard or so if I see fabric I really like. I also buy unique fat quarters.

I typically buy 1 yard unless it's something I love or is a basic color at a good price then I buy 2-3 yrds. If it's not on sale or no coupon available I won't buy it no matter how much I love it. I wait for those sales to buy all my fabric. I've been sewing for a few years but just started quilting so my eyes have been opened to color!! I'm having a ball buying and looking at fabrics!

I buy 3 to 5 yards of something I like. I never buy with a specific pattern in mind. When I find a pattern I want to make I stand in front of my wall of fabric filled boxes and pick the colors I want. I always have plenty. I once made a quilt for my sister in law and lacked 1/2 yard to finish one color. It took me 3 years to find the matching fabric in North Dakota to finish the quilt. NEVER AGAIN!!!I buy a lot and the left overs if not used within 3 years goes to my Rainbow bee to make charity donation quilts.
