I know I'm wierd but I have a 36X36 inch mat that I put on the floor (carpeted). My back does not hurt as much if I cut on the floor!

I am short, so a folding picnic table (banquet table) is perfect height for me. Even better...hubby's pool table!

I have a large table in the kitchen that has 3 leafs to work with and when I put them in the table it is 8 feet long. I have gotten use to putting things away every day when it comes to meal time.

I cut on an old computer desk that is set up on bed risers. My DH cut a piece of cabinet grade plywood that is larger than my cutting mat, and it sits on top of the desk. Great height for me. My 65 years young back likes it.

Well, so much for the "never use a rotary cutter sitting down" I'm in a wheelchair and I have no choice. I took up quilting after the wheelchair so I know no difference. Since I got my altos it is a bit more stable. There are exceptions to the rule.

Growing up, I used the dining room table to cut out garments; until I cut moms antique table cloth. Bad memory, but dad and mom found me the old cardboard cutting mats. (I know some of you must remember them) Then I got banned to my bedroom and the cardboard on the bed. (would not work now at 53...ouch) I too used a deep freezer for years then when my DD was 4 I went into the sea of indebtedness and purchased a Bernina 1530 sewing machine, a Bernina serger and a cutting table and rehealable mat. The table is over 2 yards long and 1 yard wide and adjustable but I love it and it has gone from move to move with me. However, I am back to a small mat and 8 ft. banquet table while staying with dad in Indy. Miss my sewing room. So find what works for you as you go. Teresa

I have several places that I can do my cutting except for the fact that my back and knees hurt from standing. Last week I started cutting on my coffee table while sitting on the couch. I have a new Martelli non slip strip ruler and their ergonomically correct rotary cutter. I have perfect strips with no "V's". My legs and back no longer bother me and I can watch TV while cutting. Bonus! Who says you have to stand to cut!
