i have 3 locations in my home for sewing.

one room is solely devoted to dyeing, painting, stenciling, and screen printing fabric - it has easy access to water, washer/dryer, lines for hanging fabric, work tables, etc. this is a pet free area in my home.

one room is devoted to piecing and longarm quilting customer projects - this is where my stash is kept and it too is a pet free area. it has sewing machines and all the notions that go with it.

both of these rooms take up an entire floor of my home and my pets have never been to this floor.

then i have a piecing setup in the family room - this is not a pet free area and when i can i sew here to be with my pets. it has a sewing machine and all the notions that go with piecing.

I have been slowly moving stuff out of our computer room and taking it over! My daughter and SIL helped me get rid of the shag carpet and have discovered hardwood flooring....but....somebody was quite sloppy with paint many years ago. So am trying to figure out a cheap and fast fix for the floor. When I get that done, then the room is mine to do with as I want.

I am spread all over my little house. I have my Singer 401A in the back of the dining room, my Easy Quilter and Viking in the spare bedroom, the FW in my bedroom, and the fabric stash is in a china cabinet in the living/family room. There is also assorted sewing stuff concealed in those rooms too.

We have an "alternative" lifestyle -- we're full-time RVers! So I sew, craft, bead etc on our dining table. I "hide" the machine between the back of a chair and the wall. My cutting mat and rulers are under our bed and projects are in ziplock bags (varying sizes) stashed where ever I find a spot. Not much stash to speak of, but I do have several "projects in waiting".

So you see you can manage just about anything, if you have adequate motivation!

I don't have a sewing room, so I share the small guest bedroom. I have some antique pieces of furniture that belonged to my great-grandmother in there that I don't want to move. Most of the time I keep my sewing table and folding table set up. There are two rolling carts underneath for storage. When I have ovenight guests, I have to move most of the sewing stuff to my closet in the master bath. My grandmother's wicker pram houses my baskets of cut quilt pieces, so I move them for guests.

I have lots of other sewing notions and fabrics because I sew clothing, too. I keep things organized by task in wicker baskets which sit on and under the buil-in bench and shelves by the back door. I cut out clothes and quilts on my dining room table, which I put up on bed risers to save myself from backstrain. I have
my serger set up on the built-in cabinets in there so I can serge standing up.

Mostly what it boils down to is what you are willing to give up to make space for your sewing stuff. I feel guilty about leaving too much out for my family to work around. I'm seriously considering a drastic reduction of clothes and stored items in my walk-in closet to make room for fabric...... to make more clothes.

I sew on my dining table. Seats 6 but most of the time only serves 4. When it's dinner time I push everything into the bottom corner out of the way and on to the bar. Sometimes it's frustrating but it's the only space I have.

ME TOO! Still have a small bed in there for DD2 when she returns on breaks though. Lovin' my space!!

My DH finished my sewing shop (stand alone building) in May...for the first time in my sew many years I don't have to drag out/put up/clean up when I sew. It is pure HEAVEN...though it is smaller than I wanted only 14 X 24 it is still much better than what I have had to do for all these years.

One of the bedrooms got converted (and we are finalizing the layout changes). Love my room. However, just because you can't have a room doesn't mean you can't have any space.

I have mine all spread out upstairs in the game room. All over the pool table as a matter of fact. There's a sofa and a tv up there, but I do all my cutting on the kitchen table because it sits up higher. When I handstitch a binding, I do that on the dining room table. It's just me, hubby and occasionally my daughter, but they don't care if my stuff is everywhere and I don't care if their stuff is everywhere. Unbelievably though, the house is clean most of the time.
