I'm a saver...of everything...but not a few inches of thread. That's for the birds or my pillows for the cat shelter in town. A few weeks ago I had finished with something on the sewing machine and wanted to go to the sofa in the other room to do something like thread snipping or something. I sat down and wondered where all this thread was coming from. After a little while I realized it was coming from the bobbin in the sewing room, about 20 or more feet away. About that time my husband got up to go to the kitchen. STOP! STOP! I clipped the thread, went and got the bobbin, and wound all that thread back unto the bobbin. Took a while.

I would love the directions to make a thread bowl too.

I toss them into a bag and then when I get a good bunch, place them between 2 sheets of washable stablizer and sew with invisiable thread. They look neat on a purse, crazy quilt, candle wraps. I find I use them a lot.

A side note for those who save thread scraps for the birds: mice also like them for their nests.

This is what I do with the pretty embroidery threads (especially like to add some metallic threads) when doing machine emb. I cut out the shape of a heart in a blouse or T-shirt, and sewed the lacy sandwich, after rinsing the water soluble stabilizer out, placing it behind the heart cut out, to peek through the heart opening. Was so pretty.

i save mine in a small oatmeal container by my machine when i m sewing. i like to make the thread bowls and use them as gifts filled with bath soaps and things for the bath or one i did with things for the kitchen and a few samples of coffee and teas.also baked goods to go with a gift too works. it takes a while to save the thread so i don't get to make them to often. most of it is from beginning and end of the thread when i take it out of the machine. i usally use a leader but forget sometime. that is probally why it takes me a while to collect up.

Ha! Ha! I've done that before too. It's kinda embarrassing when you finally figure it out. I think I even walked clear out the kitchen door before I realized what was going on.

Hello, I save the threads for a friend of mine: she makes fantastic new fabric with the help of water soluble stabilizer or she is sorting the threads by color and sewing them on fabric!!!
