Bedsheets are great and cheap if you're machine quilting; hard to needle if handquilting

I've had good luck at Fabric.com. The prices are very reasonable ( cotton broadcloth can be as cheap as $7.98 a yard) and they have a decent selection. They often have 20% or more off coupons and they offer free shipping if your order is over $35.
The good thing is even if your order is just over $35 and then you use a coupon, they still give you the free shipping. It's worth a look!

You have many suggestions as to where to get your wide backing, but I'm just wondering how you are going to put your quilt sandwich together - tie it, hand quilt it, quilt it with your sewing machine, rent time on a longarm quilting machine or take it to a professional longarm quilter? Quilt backs that have a busy pattern will hide a multitude of sins, muslin will show every stitch and slip.
Whatever you choose, have a blast on your quilting journey!

Sometimes quilt shops have them. Ask. They tend to be in out of the way places and some shops have only a very small amount. Recently went on a hop and found 3 shops that carried the large backings that I did not know carried them. Good luck.

I find wide backing really a pain in the #$%^ to iron and handle so usually stick to piecing normal width fabric (that way I am also free to choose a nice complementary pattern for backing). I am also a bit bored with just plain muslin for backing since I have made a few quilts with beautiful tonals or subtle prints to complement the top. It doesn't take much to sew lengths together and doesn't detract from the quilt after quilting it. I think a color coordinated backing ads to the quilt
