I'd give my left arm for good fabric at $8/yd. Here in SW Ontario, quilt store fabric is $15/meter and up. Batiks are even more.
"Cheap" stuff is $10- $12/Meter (just bigger than a yard)
Warm and Natural batting is $69 for a queen size package.
Needless to say, I wait for sales.
With the Canadian $ being so close to par with US right now, it's almost worth the tank of gas to shop over the border, and I'm 3 hours away!

As for the cost of fabric not only has cotton gone up the price of deisel has gone up. When gas goes up people get mad but you can use (in some cases) public transportation or you can choose not to travel as much. When the price of deisel goes up and no one says much. But everyone buys deisel everything that moves uses trucks or tractors you have no choice but to buy deisel.

Was going to complain about prices also but then seeing what they are paying in other countries felt it not a great idea. So I guess we all should concentrate on how to quilt with less money. Lets all exchange ideas for obtaining our fabrics at a more affordable price. I used to shop at Walmart until they deleted all the fabric from their stores.

Our LQS actually advised us to buy now because prices were going up Jan 1 and even took the time to explain why in their newsletter. Right now I pay $8 a yard for Batiks and plan on hitting the hard for backings after Christmas for all my WIPS that will need them.
