Many of these stories are priceless. I don't carry my machine with me but I do carry quilting thoughts everywhere I go. One thing that I do is follow along with my DH to the casino and bring along my kindle which is loaded with quilting mysteries series. I find a comfortable place to sit and read. At the end of the "visit" we have a nice meal together. He's happy (eh-hem, or sometimes sad) and I'm happy.

This made me laugh - San Diego has been having record heat temperatures this week, I have been seriously considering an air conditioner for my sewing room. There are fans in the room, but it blows the thread and fabric around, an air conditioner wouldn't do that. My family just shakes their head at the idea, but it makes sense doesn't it?

I've gone on a few business trips with my husband this summer. I pack a project and my sewing machine, and since the hotels provide an iron and board, I'm set! He goes off to work, and I get TV, air conditioning, room service, and a swimming pool when I want to take a break. Who needs a vacation?

I don't take my machine with me on trips (the few I take) but I usually carry a handwork project-- appliqué or English Paper Piecing. Easy to carry and satisfying. Or some knitting-- I knit a lot of socks for 18" dolls.

Why discuss with family about your sewing room. Go get a window unit. The new units now are super easy to install, just plug it in.

The only time I've taken a machine on a trip was when I was delivering it to someone else. And it's rare that I don't come home with more machines than I left with.

And I do wake up on days I don't need to get up at 4:30 am, and start thinking about a sewing project and before I know it, I'm up and heading to my machine. BTW - I don't have central air, but I do have a portable window unit (it looks like a dehumidifier and vents out a window) it works great and I just take the vent out and close the window when it's not in use. I'm mid 50's, and having hot flashes so I can't do anything without AC this summer!

Last year was our first time taking a winter vacation in our RV and I took hand embroidery along. We were so busy, I didn't get much done on it. This year I'm taking a Singer 99 so I'll see if I can find time to use it.

I took both my featherweight and a hand stitching project with me to Colorado. Have the featherweight already in the truck for the trip to Pittsburgh area. Didn't take it with me last year and had major sewing withdrawal before getting home. Also taking crocheting projects as well.
