I am both but at this point my scraps are large enough that my quilts look to be preplanned. Soon enough I will be down to the nitty gritty and will be making some really scrappy looking quilts. I still like doing preplanned quilts too and that of course adds to the scraps...the best of both worlds is how I see it!

To get scraps, I just buy fabrics I like. IF I really am nuts about it, and think it would be a nice border, I buy 3 yards (on sale of course  )

Then just start whacking at the fabric, using this and that. A mix of whatever. even my applique fabric were unplanned buys.

In 1965 there were not quilt shops like today. I actually bought from the Sears catalog during my first few years! Ventured out into fabric shops, went through trying the poly/cotton blends (yuckie) and then quilt shops came along. The rest - like they say - is history. But if I see a good fabric, regardless of where it is, I do try to buy it. Perhaps we all do that.

I am a proud scrapper! Even if I try to preplan, something scrappy works its way in!

A local church sewing group gives me cotton scraps. I use them to make small quilts to give to my church's prayer quilt ministry. I have graduated to large quilts as my supply of scraps has increased. I often combine the scrap blocks with denim blocks. I enjoy the unexpected results.

definately a scrapper, although I have used planned fabric colors and choices too. (I get to put the left overs in the scrap pile for future use. ) My motto is generally the more fabrics the better.

Planner and scrapper, can't throw the scraps out, so collect the left over pieces and turn that into scrappy blocks.
