I'm getting close to applying a border to the quilt I'm working on. I think it will just be white (haven't quite decided the width). I think that I have enough white left to border the quilt if I piece the border from strips cut across the width of the yardage. Will that look bad or will it blend after quilting? Do you feel you have to use a continuous length of fabric for a border? Your thoughts are appreciated!

Strip cutting will be just fine. I do this often and it will not be noticeable once it is quilted.

Is the white border going to be next to blocks that would have white touching that border? You might want to place them on the white and see if the effect created is what you want. Sometimes a border next to blocks that have that same color touching the border will cause a loss of definition as to border and block separation. That can alternatively create a really nice look where the other colors just seem to float. So do check it out first to see if you like it.

It's commonly done, as it's a saving on yardage.

I always cut across the fabric. If I have a continuous pattern in my fabric then cutting the long way to get that pattern is what I do.

Thanks, everyone! That's a relief. Mom-6, I will check!! The blocks are whirligigs and partially white. I may need additional borders...
