I have been working on last years candy. After searching I found a pattern and reworked it for 2.5"
This will only be darks or mediums or lights. (umm is there any other?)
But I cut the light corners wrong and came up with two scenarios. What would your preference be? squares all in one direction or middle block different than corners?

This is fabulous! I prefer squares all in one direction, but I wouldn’t kick the other one out of bed either. Great job!

I prefer the light block on the right positioning.

Traveling G,
Since we are voting here, I like the one on the left. Not necessarily because the blocks are all going one direction but because the lights make the darks/medium just shine!

Would you share, can you share the pattern details. Source etc. I want to use all my 2.5's this month so I can start fresh in September. Down to about 2,000. (This is a rough guess. They seem to multiply while I sleep each night.)

So far this year I have used approximately 2,800 since January! Oh goodness I just remembered an Irish Chain that used 2.5 That will put me well over 3000! Silly me!

Oh I am so glad. That's snail mail for you. I hope the candies were good. Does that mean you received two packages? If so keep them both. Happy extra birthday.

I like the one on the left, hands down! no question about it!-- even though the seams of the background don't meet the seams of the center. :-) I just like the look of everything set on point.

It looks like on the left example you can get the points of the center closer to the seam line of the block, by squaring up your blocks to where the points should be. I think it looks okay to have odd sized pieces around the edge. It would seem sort of like a crumb background in a way.

The example on the right seems like you will have the center floating in the background. The background on the right could have all uniformly sized candy pieces all the way out to edge maybe, but if not, then I wouldn't use it for sure.

Maybe it depends on if you want your points out to seam line, or the center floating. Maybe it depends if you care if your background has different sized pieces, or exact sized pieces.

If you are going to make half of each type of block, then set them checkerboard, I'd for sure use the example on the left (after squaring it up to have the points meet at the seam line), because the seams of the light and dark would line up diagonally across the surface of the quilt (along with horizontally and vertically). I would be like sewing Square in a Square blocks together.

I made the middle 6x6
on the light corners - I made a 7x7 square and than cut it X to make four corners.
the dark corners I made 2 5x5 and cut diagonal. I believe if I use 4x4 it would be better. Will take apart and go down to that and see.
Either way of doing the block- there is absolutely no waste and no extra fabric needed.
here is the inspiration - Square-rific by April Rosenthal. She used a smaller sized squares on her corners. and then used full triangle pieces on light corners
