My mat is the same, Bibliostone. I was warned early by one of my class teachers never to use mats for any precision measuring. I'll bet you that almost everyone will discover their cutting mats don't match their acrylic rulers. So always measure everything with your acrylic squares. Mats are unreliable.

Looks like I am going to have to rip and restitch some of the blocks I made because they are too small. I hope the blocks I sent out in the last boom were not too small to be used. This "redoing" was not included on my timeline!

Reminder: the mailing window is closing. Anyone wishing to get their blocks out early, please make sure they arrive by Friday. I will open another mailing window in mid-October. Thanks.

bibliostone, I always just use my rulers for cutting. The only time I use the mat is to get a square edge to start. My 12 1/2" rotating mat matches my rulers perfecting. When the block is done I put it on that, line it up and square it up. When I cut out fabric I make sure the "line" on my ruler is "over", like on top of the fabric also, not beside it. You could be losing about a 16th of an inch and in a 12 1/2" block could amount to 1/4" if that's what you are short. Check this out...it may make a difference between your ruler and cutting mat.
