GramE those clamshells are beautiful. Kass I used an extra pin at the end. I think you're right though. That third pin isn't needed. The block turned out fine, so one of you may be getting one like it.
I already have two plans for the Leo square and the 'ugly' fat quarter square. I also know what I'm going to do with the cats and angels. I go to sleep and I wake up with quilt blocks designed.

mjp, not only is that back end pin not ness, I think it is actually easier w/o it. The whole piece lays flatter and easier in my opinion to guide and ease through w/o the accidental pucker. I know other sites that tell how to sew curved pieces say to lengthen the stitch length, but I actually find it easier to control and not get "out of curve" to shorten it.
