MJP, what a creative and gorgeous tree block for Kass! That one is very special. One of my favorites of the entire swap.

Mjp/-agreed— your tree block is creative and gorgeous. I was considering doing a tree block a couple weeks ago, but mine wouldn’t come close to your skill level.

This one is for Pamela. It looks better in real life too. Pamela I went to nine quilt stores and couldn’t find that orange. I like it with the dark orange better anyway. The dark orange matches one of the bird colors perfectly.

This block reminds me of the palm tree block I made for Jaba. I hope you like it. It’s definitely outside the box. It looks better in real life.

I think this has been one of the best booms. All the blocks are really good. We are going to be making some spectacular quilts.

My husband commented how much better my piecing has become since the first boom. You folks have been very encouraging. The booms encouragement to do out of the box blocks has also helped stretch my appliqué creativity.

I love this block! When I first opened the thread I gasped when I saw it, my husband thought something was wrong until I showed him my screen. Lol I like it with the darker orange too, thank you for this beauty of a block. Your inspiring me to learn to applique.

Actually it’s not that hard because it’s fusible appliqué. Your block took more technical skill than Kass’ because on yours I used FMQ twice around to tack the birds down securely. I felt some of the pieces on yours were just too skinny for the blanket stitch. Going around twice makes it look better too. Covers the mistakes you made the first time around.

Kass’ appliqué was done with the stitch on my machine meant for applique. Is it called a blanket stitch? Easy peasy just time consuming.

Since I did the drawing for Kass hers was more challenging artistically. For yours I reduced to 80% the bird drawing from my skinny quilts book. As soon as I saw your fabric I remembered that book. I very rarely draw realistic stuff. My son has a fine arts degree in painting so I just ask him or my husband. My son clearly got his talent from DH although by the time he was eight he was better than all of us. My son said mom I like to see you doing figurative designs. I’m not sure what that is but apparently I’m doing it.
