I don't use a pattern very often, most times I use a block that I like and frame around it. You might do a search for wall hangings and see a lot of ideas. Free patterns everywhere out there.

R-sea, look for any 5 or 6" block and make 9 or 12 blocks and then get creative by adding sashing, corner stones, alternate a blocks with a snowball or 9P block.
I will take block ideas from big quilts and just down size them on graph paper or just make a few blocks at size. Graph paper can be a good friend, use 1/4" sq = 1" and you can downsize any block right down to a mini size.
Even one 10 or 12" block can be a stunning WHing when done in gorgeous fabric and color.
A simple 9P repeated can be very pretty in alternate colors, themed to a season or holiday.
Another question is how big is too big? making fewer blocks could be just the solution. A pattern is only a guide or starting point for what you want to create.

Love the plaids and flowers in the spools and hearts, ube.
MarionsQuilts, your dragonfly is stunning.
I'm considering what I might do this time.....have a few things stirring around. This is such a fun swap.

One of the things I like about this swap is the range of ideas and sizes to work with.
If I'm partnered with you, jaba, I'm afraid I'd have to deliver to you in person. Why?.....because I'm freezing here in Michigan. LOL
