Right! Lucky you to have that longarm, but I think you'll have a ball quilting the sampler blocks individually according to each pattern. I use a lot of walking foot curved lines, as you can see. I'm currently in love with them. It means a lot of block turning, so I doubt I'd do it if I was quilting a whole top on my Juki.

I've been doing my En Provence w/ a wider pieced sashing QAYG the long sashing strip is sewn to join both long strips of blocks and sashing. It was a method I made up out of necessity. I plan on doing this same method for the Summer Citrus blocks.

I used to have more pics on the computer but this is all I could find w/o a big search.

sewbizgirl 04-27-2017 08:09 PM

Oh, cool how you joined that!

I had forgotten about your unique colorway and was pleased to see it again! So pretty. I have some of that same 'scribbly bubbles' in gray as you have in your diamonds.

Janice McC 04-28-2017 12:49 PM

You'd definitely be a whiz at QAYG, Jaba. It's fun to quilt the individual blocks. I just straight line quilted them on my domestic machine. Super easy. Putting them together wasn't tough, just fidgety to get the sashings to line up. I mostly succeeded. Mostly. I just finished this afternoon. I'll post it over on the UFO board since the blocks are from close to 15 years ago. But first, I'd better get a pic.

I have my blocks all sewn together into quilts right now except this last Boom but need some more blocks first. Maybe I'll go searching through a closet and see if I have some spare blocks to practice on first. That might be a good idea:)

Janice McC 04-28-2017 02:01 PM

Want some of mine? I've got plenty! ;). My little quilt was strictly practice. Learned a lot, particularly where I'm apt to have trouble again.

Libster 04-28-2017 03:58 PM

Hey, Everybody. Thought I'd check in. I had some minor surgery done this morning on the back of my shoulder. The feeling is all back now and this thing HURTS! Thing is, that one is over and done. They're going to let it heal some before doing the big one on the rest of my back. I HATE getting old and everything starts to fall apart.
On the bright side, I have my fabric chosen for June. I did get my batting and backing squares and strips cut yesterday for Sara's quilt. When my shoulder agrees, I can get started on hers. I have enough blocks to make my great-granddaughter one too, the same size as hers. Sara's moving into her first home, so this will be good timing. I'll post pics when I get them done. One will have a cream flannel backing, the other will get mint green flannel . That way they will know which belongs to which.
Well, time for something for pain and night-night.

terriamn 04-28-2017 05:08 PM

Libster sending hugs and prayers for quick healing

I can relate on the joy of health issues on aging. Not a fan

Have been having so much fun quilting with my sweet 16, have even quilted 2 for another quilter. Just meandering but she loved it.

Janice McC 04-28-2017 05:35 PM

Libster, I will keep you in my thoughts and am sending warm, healing thoughts this very minute. Don't over do!

Terriamn, I agree about this aging thing. It is not for the faint of heart.

sewbizgirl 04-28-2017 05:56 PM

Libster, good to hear from you! Rest! Luckily QAYG is easier on the shoulders than wrestling a whole quilt through a dsm.... and you already know how to do it! But like Janice said... don't overdo. We want you healthy for many booms to come.

Kassaundra 04-29-2017 02:35 AM

Glad you made it through the surgery, now for a speedy recovery, Libster.

Libster 04-29-2017 03:15 AM

Thanks, Everybody. I'm sure looking forward to our next Boom too. I'm glad I got some things cut before hand. I think maybe I can manage my QAYG, a little at a time. HA!....no withdrawal for me this time!

joanelizbay 04-29-2017 05:39 AM

Glad you are doing good Libster...no kind of surgery is fun but esp if it messes with quilting!! :)

Not finished w/ my version of En Provence yet, but have made some progress. The main body is completely finished, here is a pic of the front and back. Then there is a pic of how I am planning on doing the borders, and a close up of the planned borders. I only have to make 3 additional tri rec squares.

wow..thats beautiful Kass!!

Muse&Sew 04-30-2017 01:42 PM

That is gorgeous Kass! Fantastic job.

Janice McC 04-30-2017 02:25 PM

Look at all the work in that! Great job. Can't wait to see it finished.

Kass this is wonderful.

sewbizgirl 04-30-2017 03:01 PM

Really impressive, Kass... Love the red stars so much!

I'm quilting the second half of my April blocks today, so I'll have another Strawberry Lemonaid lap quilt soon.

Kassaundra 04-30-2017 04:02 PM

Thanks you guys, I really love how this one has turned out too and I love the simplicity and calmness of the back.

jaba 04-30-2017 05:51 PM

Looks nice Kass, it blends together beautifully. I'm on a wait list for this last April Boom, need more blocks and terriamn and I are trading some. That will sure help me out. I've had a sewing marathon for the last 2 days...all of a sudden I have 2 graduation quilts to make. Everything else is on hold until I get them done.
when grandson asks his Dad if he thinks Grandma will make him a quilt to take to college....Yep I will. Michigan State, green and white with a Spartan logo coming up. Need and want to give his girl friend a gift also, that means Washington State at Bellingham. I'm going to be busy for a few days.....Cut out the Michigan colors yesterday and sewed them into disappearing 4 patch blocks today, logo tomorrow and applique, hopefully rows sewn together and border and then it will be ready for the longarm.

Jaba, you are so quick! Those two new quilts won't even slow you down.

Here's a sneak preview of some blocks I've quilted today. Seems I've used all the yellow in the first quilt, so this one won't be Strawberry Lemonaid II, but rather Chocolate Covered Strawberries. Ha! Definitely more brown than the other quilt. These are all ready to be joined.

Love the chocolate covered....Won't slow me down, it will make me have sleepless nights until they are done. The binding is what takes time and I don't want to do them by machine...they will take a few nights to get sewn.

marietta 05-01-2017 02:02 AM

Happy May everyone! Lots going on since I was last here.

terri ~ Great quilt, I have no name suggestions for it, except maybe "Wow" lol
Libster glad all went well with surgery
sewbiz ~ love the Strawberry Lemonaid, and the Chocolate one looks like its going to be just as great
Kass ~ very stunning quilt

Bought a new computer, well overdue, And have been learning my way around it. Good thing I have a bit of time on my hands these days lol.

I have a baby quilt to finish then can get started on making extra blocks for my two different boom quilts. Altho since I haven't picked out any fabric for the next boom :) I may very well send in the remaining fabric for my friends quilt.

It was a sad weekend for hubby and I, on Friday we made the rough decision to have our blue heeler Suzy put to rest. It was for the best for her, but hard on us. Saturday evening while we were moping around the house, I told hubby lets go...we went and rounded up all the grands at one of our daughters houses and spent the rest of the evening with them chasing lightening bugs. Making memories spending time with those you love having fun, Life goes on.

Good morning, Boomers. Sewbizgirl, your new chocolate strawberries will be wonderful. Thanks for sharing your quilting pix. Helps us newbies immensely.

Since we're talking about finishes a bit, I've pulled out my Boom 14 blocks and they're up next for quilting. I'll make 2 more and then QAYG, but this time with sashings and a border, maybe. I'm working that out in my head. For those who don't recall, here are the blocks:

I hope to get this one done in May. We'll see!

Please keep posting your pix. Very inspirational!

terriamn 05-01-2017 05:17 AM

Marietta so sorry about Suzy but you were so wise to make great memories instead of sitting around being sad. Hope I remember that when Rio's time with us ends.

Sewbiz your QAUG blocks are great.

Janice are you going to show us pictures of your first QAUG?

yesterday was a bust, no sewing. Had bad allergy attack probably from the 17 bags of mulch we spread on Saturday. Dosed myself with enough essential oils hubby said you could smell me outside. Much better today. I have to make 3 mug rugs and make a Snowy Day Sampler block then I will be ready to work on Jaba's blocks when her fabric arrives.

Not a lovely day in Minnesota but so far the snow that was predicted hasn't hit. We are right on the edge of he system and will be thrilled if it misses us.

Janice McC 05-01-2017 05:38 AM

I'm sitting in a drs office with mom or I'd post it here. Two pix are over on the UFO challenge board on 4/28. http://www.quiltingboard.com/quiltin...t284858-3.html

I'm home so here you go. The Cyrano the Cat claimed the quilt before it was bound.

I used two different blues for the sashing since I didn't have enough of either one alone. I won't do that on future pieces. Also bound it by machine and it's a bit rough. These blocks are some of my very first ones from the early 2000's. DON'T look too closely at the points. LOL.

This was an extraordinarily easy technique, at least for me. I find quilting a larger piece next to impossible on my domestic. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this.

Janice your quilt turned out great. Talk about motivation, you are helping motivating us.

finished 2 mug rugs and a gal I quilted a rush job for is treating me to some free shopping this afternoon. Going to go shopping but instead of paying for my purchase will suggest she sew me up some binding strips for our charity quilts from her mighty stash

OH my had a very fun time, Blue Bamboo's speciality was Asian fabrics and batiks, most of the fabric was 60% off and they even had some for $3.99. My friend filled two of those large IKEA bags, darn near had heart attack when her total was rung up. But she got some fantastic deals.

sewbizgirl 05-01-2017 12:35 PM

That's a great looking score, Terri! I love good fabric sales.

One of the quilting podcasts I listened to driving to KY said the we are NOT hoarders, we are fabric collectors. We are selective in what we choose to bring home. Hoarders are not. Works for me! :p

Marietta, I'm so sorry about your doggie. Choosing to end a beloved pet's life is one of the hardest things to do. Big HUGS to you.

terriamn 05-01-2017 01:49 PM

That is great SewBiz as I rarely buy something I don't like because it's a good price unless I'm looking for backs

Several of the fabrics could end up in booms Need to find the right pattern for the packaged 5 yard bundle of the purple Asian fabric's

joanelizbay 05-01-2017 02:54 PM

I love that packaged bundle of purple!! Ive been thinking I need to do a purple based quilt soon. Nice haul!!

sewbizgirl 05-01-2017 04:29 PM

I love the Asian bundle too, but it was the purple roses just behind it that caught my eye!

terriamn 05-01-2017 07:36 PM

I need a good pattern for a quilt that needs 5 1 yard cuts for the packet of Asian fabrics. The purple doses just might end up in a boom. So many options with it. Could make it purple and orange, purple and lavender, purple and green. Oh so many choices

sewbizgirl 05-01-2017 09:59 PM

Terri, there are books for 5 fabrics, called "Take 5"... I just bought one in Paducah. They have patterns for 5 fabrics, usually 4 colors and a neutral or light. Maybe you can see some online. The book I got is called More Take 5 Quilts... I have no idea how many there actually are. My favorite one in the book is simply a Jacob's ladder, but each block has just one of the 4 colors plus the neutral. I love how it looks.

sewbizgirl 05-01-2017 10:01 PM

I got my second lap quilt nearly done today. The quilts are beautiful, thanks to y'all's beautiful blocks! I only need to sew down the binding (by machine) and I'll show it. Tomorrow.

Janice McC 05-02-2017 04:26 AM

I'm getting around to the QB feedback. I'm only about a third done so bear with me. And Kass, I just gave you a second positive one. Ugg. Must slow down and pay more attention!

Great quilts, they are going to make a couple transplant patients very happy
