Everyone in Hummingbird, 2 month group ​has the option of either sending the required 15 F8s or you may send me 19 if you wish to make and receive 19 blocks, which is the maximum number of blocks I permit in each group. I will distribute the extras to other swappers who wish to make and receive 19. Please wash, press, remove selvages, cut into F8s (approx. 18x11, no smaller than 18x10), bag, label with your name and any requests and then put them into a large ziplock-type envelope inside your mailing envelope with your name and address on it. Remember, you will be shipping with tracking. All fabrics must be in my hands on or before Thursday, January 18, 2018 and I will turn around and send them out on Monday, January 20, 2018. If all fabrics are in sooner, I'll mail sooner.

Shipping: When you mail to me, please do so in whatever manner you wish as long as you do so with tracking. Please review shipping rules below and be sure to send me the tracking number as soon as you get it. Be sure to include $7.25 for return shipping. If the money/prepaid labels are missing, I will hold your package until I receive it. No checks or Paypal please.

Please have fun! It’s time to play with fabric you might not normally use, show your skills, make some new friends, say hello to old ones, and generally enjoy the experience. Let’s go!

Rules/Guidelines:

Please make sure to also refer to the basic policies that apply to all swaps through the board: Rules for Swaps and Similar Activities -Updated 8 December 2010.

Fabric, Completed Block and Package Preparation:
1) Use only 100 percent quilting cotton. Please pre-wash and press your fabric without any fragrance residue. Remove selvages before cutting into Fat Eighths, generally about 18” x 11” but no smaller than 18”x 10”, no exceptions! Please keep off-sized pieces for your own use. If you send me smaller pieces, I will return them to you at your expense.
2) When mailing your F8s to me, please make sure they are individually sealed in a small Ziploc-type bag, no hard zippers please. Label each F8 with your board name easily visible to me along with any instructions or color requests for your fabric. (Do not specify a recipient unless a fabric is being directed to a particular person.) Labels are useful to help the recipient prevent fabric mix-ups, something that’s easy to do. Please then take all the individually wrapped F8s and put them in a Ziplock-type bag large enough to accommodate them all onto which you have written your name and address. When you send your completed blocks back to me, please seal and label your completed blocks with the owner’s name and your name easily visible to me in a similar manner as you did the F8s.
3) Please mail your F8s to arrive by Thursday, January 18, 2018. The sooner everyone gets them to me, the sooner they go out! Be sure to send me the tracking number as soon as you ship.
4) Carefully handle all fabric received and completed blocks, placing them somewhere safe until mailing time comes.
5) To help keep track of the fabrics and blocks made, I may establish an online Fabric Gallery.
6) You are required to keep in touch with your group by posting to the dedicated Boom 20 Hummingbird thread at least every 2 weeks. This is a requirement. If you don’t wish to keep in touch, this is not the swap for you.
7) All blocks must be completed within the time frame for the group and mailed to me with a tracking number.
8) All blocks must be 12 1/2” unfinished. Blocks may be regularly pieced, paper-pieced, appliquéd, whatever the block maker decides to do. It is up to each individual. Please do not request specific blocks as the idea is to let everyone, of every skill level, join in and show their talents.
9) Most importantly, have fun!

Important Shipping Details
You must supply me with tracking numbers on all parcels sent to me and I will do likewise when I mail to you. All shipping costs are your responsibility. You may ship to me in whatever tracked package you like however I will only ship to you in USPS Padded Priority Envelopes (unless other arrangements have been made) at the rate in force at the time of shipping. Today that cost is $7.25. Please send a pre-paid envelope or label or you may send me $7.25 in well-concealed cash and I will supply the envelope. Envelopes stamped with “regular” postage stamps will no longer be picked up by my carrier but must be taken in person to the post office. This will delay shipping until I can get to the post office so please no “regular” stamps. I do not accept PayPal or checks.

Keep in mind the following:
You must be in good standing with previous swaps. Anyone with a poor track record of fulfilling swap commitments will not be permitted to join. If you sign-up and do not fulfill your commitment, negative feedback will be given.

All skill levels are welcome but you must be able to sew a 12 ½ inch, basic, well-constructed block. The block doesn’t have to be detailed but it must not be falling apart. All seams should be ¼ inch with at least 12 stitches per inch. Blocks should not leave your hands until you know you have made every effort to get them as close to the 12 ½ inch size as you can reasonably get. We all respect new quilter’s need to learn and that will be taken into account. If you cannot consistently construct a 12 ½ inch block, this is not the swap for you. Also, this is important: Please allow yourself enough time to complete your full set of blocks. In other words, don’t leave them to the last week! The results can be hit-or-miss. And please be sure to clean up the blocks by trimming your threads and cutting dog ears.

Please pre-wash your 100 percent cotton quilting fabrics without any fragrance residue. Please note that that some swappers may be smokers or have pets. If pets or smoke is a problem for you, this isn’t the swap for you.

Hello fellow hummingbirds.

Hello, Hummers! Weather permitting, I will head to the post office in the morning. Expecting some snow flurries and maybe some ice in the afternoon. This weather just keeps getting gooder and gooder!

We're hummingbirds... yay! Hope to mail fabric tomorrow.

My fabric is washed and cut and I am looking at adding some fabric to go along.. I had to use a sort of corresponding fabric to go to some of you , as there just wasn't quite enough to make 15 packets, so I got the other fabric out and made 19. :)
I shall be sticking them in baggies tomorrow, probably with a blender fabric..
Question on the blenders.. what size is most useful? Is a 12 X 12 inch piece enough to use? 10 X 10? I don't think I have enough to send another full F8.. but I dont want to send a piece not large enough to use..

How early may I send to you? I am ready when you are. Bootsy

We are going to get slammed. Storm tomorrow about 8-14 inches high wind not going to be nice around here going to be a long winter with all this snow won't be leaving us soon Good old New England you never know

Good Morning fellow hummers. Just waiting on more label tape to arrive and my package will be ready to go.

Hoping to leave house today and run some errands. You put on an extra fleece sweater, jam yourself into your big winter jacket, put on boots, hat, mittens and wrap a scarf around your neck. Walk to garage, get in car turn on electric seat warmer and start driving. Pretty soon you peel your scarf off, remove your hat, unzip your jacket as the car warms up. Get to store put all the layers back on, go in store start peeling everything off and the routine continues.

Any size for the extra fabric is acceptable. Something to think about if you send a 13 x 13 it leaves the option for using it as a whole piece background for any who are going to applique.

Terri, the little girl in your avatar that is wearing a red velvet dress with fur cuffs is the same style dress that my bridesmaids wore at our wedding. They carried muffs with flowers on them. Tomorrow is our 49th wedding anniversary and it was sub zero temperatures that day too. My father and father in law brought jumper cables to the reception to make sure everyone's car started for their trip home.

We had a heat wave today! After -9 yesterday morning it was a warm 21 at 6:30 this morning! I laugh at my twin brother. Hes always posting the warm balmy temps of Cape Coral Florida all year...Hes in Virginia this week seeing his grandson and is shocked at the 22 degree weather and snow!! I told him Karma got him! :)

Joan, I see where Florida has ice everywhere with frozen fountains. Your brother may be in for an even bigger shock when he gets back home.
I've mailed my F8s this morning and done the obligatory run for bread and sandwich makings. Apparently, the storm is shifting a little more to the west and that puts me in the rough part of the path. Everybody stay safe and warm. This is a great time to stay in and off the roads if possible.

Will be sending my package out today! Love our names.This little hummingbird is so ready to begin.

No ice in Mulberry, FL., but lots of rain last night and today. It's a whopping 49 deg., cold here for sure, if we were in Wyoming I'd think we were having a heat wave. Below zero there and snowing.
I'm sending my F8's today, they're all prepped, note written and ready for all of you to help me make a quilt.

It is nice here at the moment, in WA. We have clear skies and sunshine to soak up. It is supposed to snow again, but only half an inch.
Have my fabric pre-washed, will try to get a photo posted in next couple of days. Ready to have some humming fun.

For everyone with storms coming your way... please be safe, and I hope you have alternate sources of heat, should your power go out. I grew up in New England and had enough of the long, cold winters during my childhood. After graduating high school I sort of 'ran away' to Hawaii and stayed there for 12 years. Met and married hubby there and we moved to Louisiana (where he's from) and then soon after to Mississippi (where my parents were living). I wanted my kids to be able to know their grandparents... but the lack of extreme winters is wonderful. We can have extreme summers, tho! Today we have 25 degrees but it's a beautiful crisp, clear sunny day. It's beautiful outside, just cold. But we are blessed not to have had any precipitation with the cold, so don't have to deal with ice or snow. This cold can't last forever.

Cheesehead love your fabric, it’s a combination of all my favorite colors. And Happy Anniversary. The little girl is Stella, the youngest of my grandkids.

It’s a balmy 5 degrees here with no wind. A little dangerous getting out of the house for pleasure, the first time in 2 weeks. Think I am buying 2 new sewing machines. Upgrading my embroidery machine for sure and depending on how loud hubby screams might be replacing my everyday machine.

It is a lovely 56 degrees here is Sacramento. You'll need to come visit.

Just got back home from the post office. The post office here doesn't have the padded flat rate envelopes so mine may be shipped in a flat rate box or plain flat rate envelope. The cost of sending the box isn't a whole lot more so I may go that route.

After I left the post office I ran for a few things at Publix and treated myself to a filled cannoli.

Quick FYI, the padded envelopes are supposedly only available online at usps.com. You can order them for free in sets of 10 and 15, I believe. Remember, you can ship in any tracked package you like but I'll generally use the padded ones for simplicity and safety.

I plan to mail my fabric next week.

Snow has starting falling this morning. Cars already covered. Joanns fabric store was jammed last night as everyone was getting yarn anticipating all the snow today. I am off till Saturday thank god. They did not close store as of 10 last night but I am sure they won't be open today.

Bootsy, be safe and warm. My immediate area dodged the bullet. Ice and snow to the east and west of us. Myrtle Beach and Savannah, Ga. has snow as well as all along the coast of NC! We still have the bone chilling cold, but I'll take that. Thank you, Lord, for little favors. Fingers crossed, the wind is supposed to kick in this afternoon.
Everybody in this storm's path, I'm thinking about all of you. Stay warm.

Miss Libster, glad to hear your area was spared. When I got here early this am and didn't see any posts from you I thought uh oh. Today I will be mailing my fabric.

We are pretty to use this bone chilling cold here in the upper Midwest. For those of you that this is relatively unheard of it has to be horrible. We have heavy winter clothing and snow plows for the roads. Can’t imagine being without the basics and enduring this cold and snow. Be safe

Last year when we went to Green Bay, I could not believe how well they are at plowing those roads. They were so quick, the only evidence of snow was the pile ups on the walkways and parking lots. Yes, the upper midwest is set for snow.
We have dodged the snow so far, it is supposed to hit us this weekend, sure when I want to go to the quilt shop.
I have my fabrics cut and ready to put in the baggies, made my little tags for inside on directions, now to get the labels for outside ready to go and off in the mail by tomorrow most likely. This way, they have a couple weeks to get over to the east coast area.

On our local news yesterday, they were saying Florida was putting out sand on their roads where the snow was. This stuff is unheard of that far south! We're just not prepared to combat it like the northern states are. Here in NC we do put salt on the main roads. Other than that, you're on your own!

Just back from yoga and a "side trip" to a LQS for a single yard of turkey red only that I need for a project. So of course, I bought 2 yards of it and a spool of thread and 4 yards of another fabric that's 40 percent off. Besides that, I'm also rethinking my fabric choice. I have had some yellow for several years that I've wanted to pair with white for a sunny quilt. I may switch to that and make it super easy on you all. Simple two color quilt. We'll see. Turns out there's a bit more buried in my stash than I realized. Oh, dear. Also, I found some beautiful fabrics that would pair well with Jaba's green, I don't have anything that will work well, so once I get her F8 in my hands, I'm going to shoot up there again to grab some. When you must, you must.

Here in Mississippi, I doubt there's a single snow plow.... When we ever get snow, it gets packed down in the road from all the gawkers out looking at everything covered with snow. That makes it hard and icy, so they come along with sand to help with traction. Not out in the country, tho. Just in town, on bridges and such. We got 5" last month and it pretty well paralyzed the communities. LOL. I grew up in Massachusetts, tho, and remember the snow plows well. Just about when you got your driveway all shoveled, the plow would come by and dump a mountain across the end of your driveway. There were the city plows, and for extreme times, they would also hire on small contractors-- guys who just happened to own a truck and a plow attachment they could put on it when needed. Good times... (not) :hunf:.

We have beautiful sunny weather again today, and it's starting to creep up towards 40. That means broken water pipes are thawing out and leaking. We have a standing spigot up at the front of the property that was wrapped really well with foam insulation, but hubby says the water in it still froze and blew the top of it off. So now he's out there dealing with plumbing repair. We have no water pressure here at the house. But we are in better shape than a lot of people. Hope all our Boomers are safe and warm.
