Im doing 2 quilts with mine, one will be done with 1930's fabrics- they have been sent out today to 18 people, the other one I havent decided on yet.

OdessaQuilts 08-16-2010 06:49 PM

Well, as per my "usual", I'm daring to be different ... I purchased 7 different coordinating fabrics and will be sending them out. I have no idea how many of each will be going out (2 of them I have decent yardage of for borders/sashing, but want to use them for blocks, too...). I have a note going in the envie with mine, and a swatch of the others you don't get stapled to it so you can see what will be in my quilt.

You'd think I'm made of $$ when I tell people I bought something like 14.5 yards of fabric, but at $2.49/yard, I just couldn't pass it up! I may make some pillowcases and/or a smaller WH from the leftovers ....

it's gonna be fun!

~SQUISHIE ALERT~
I got 4 on Sat:
barbsbus
fryguymoore
missgigglewings
ReneeBobby

And today, I was blessed with 6 more squishies:
Wendsy
moonrise
montanablu
MegsAnn
kwiltkrazy
leakus
This is sooooo much fun. This is my first time and I don't think will be my last. They are all beautiful fabrics and can't wait to hear what they have to so about what to turn them into. I hope to get mine out tomorrow.

wendsy 08-16-2010 07:44 PM

I raided my stash for the Boomerang-didn't have enough yardage of 1 fabric so I had 2 pieces I found on sale that kind of coordinated-still didn't have enough so I added from another piece. So I ended up using 3 different fabric, I did end up sending out swatches of the other 2 with each F8.

MegsAnn 08-16-2010 08:12 PM

I got F8s today from kwiltkrazy and montanablu. YAY!

kwiltkrazy 08-16-2010 08:51 PM

Gosh, this is so exciting.

moonrise 08-16-2010 10:38 PM

The strangest thing happened a little while ago! I had all the F8's that arrived today together in my sewing room, waiting to be studied. No sooner did I leave the room when I heard a ruckus! I opened the door, and those "innocent" little F8's were digging through my stash, fighting over which fabrics they wanted in their block with them! Eek! Two of them were even having a tug-of-war!

Luckily I caught them in time, before they got into too much trouble. Nobody got hurt. Whew!

But since they were so eager to become "all grown up", I sat down at the sewing machine, and now they're all happy, adult blocks. They'll be winging their way back to their mommies later this morning. :)

Megsann's gorgeous F8 and coordinating sample had me a little "out of my element" as far as color goes. I tried to use some of the colors from the lighter fabric, while still coordinating with the sampler fabric. I hope you like it! :)

Fryguymoore's F8 had me bumfuzzled at first, but as soon as I started digging through my stash, the perfect coordinate was right in front of me. I'd forgotten I'd bought it a few weeks ago. I'm really liking how it turned out. Hope you do, too. Your fabric is positively yummy!

Leakus' block turned out nicely too, I think. :) I used one of my favorite patterns. Hope you enjoy it!

Kwiltkrazy's block was made with a fussy-cut flower from her F8 as the centerpiece, and with another of my favorite patterns. Enjoy! :)

I happened to have some perfectly-coordinating fabric for Barbsbus's F8, and I think the pattern sets off her fabric nicely. Hope you like it! :)

Missgigglewings's F8 was more of a challenge, but hopefully you'll enjoy it. The fabric is beautiful. I think the texture was throwing me off, because I haven't worked with that type of cloth before. I kept the pattern fairly simple to keep the number of cuts down (fraying), so I chose a classic pattern and used a very decorative coordinating fabric. Hope you like it! :)

.....

I'm really, really enjoying working with all these F8's. It gives me something to do, plus I like working with colors and designs that are different than the ones I normally am drawn to. Go ahead and sign me up for 4.0 ... and 5.0 ... and 6.0 ... and ...

Hope lots more F8's arrive tomorrow!

reneebobby 08-17-2010 03:25 AM

Moonrise, your way to funny. But this is an addicting swap. Purple taked me into it (not very hard either) and this is my second time. I do plan on 1 more and then well, I will have to start turning all these beautiful blocks into beautiful quilts. I need to find a book (for directions) on quilt as you go otherwise I would be spending a ton of money on quilting. hummmmmmm maybe it will help push dh into buying me a longarm? Okay wishful thinking on my part. hehehe

dawson.tracy35 08-17-2010 04:22 AM

Thank you all for your input! I may have an idea. Just have to get the guts up to cut into it!

shaysmema 08-17-2010 05:00 AM

I was sitting at my machine this morning trying to finish up a quilt I had started and missgigglewings f8 started yelling at me, "Hey I would look good dressed up in that fabric" so that's what I did. She is on the way home to you today. I keep it simple hope you like it.

missgigglewings 08-17-2010 06:13 AM

Do I win a prize for "most challanging" F8? Ignore the texture, its just a little different then our usually cotton choices. I just loved the blue in that fabric and the simple little pattern! I know the talented quilters on this board will get their creative juices flowing and I will end up with a beautiful quilt! (of my own!)

OdessaQuilts 08-17-2010 07:25 AM

MISSGIGGLEWINGS,

When I saw that F8, I thought, "oh, what a pretty pattern ... oooooohhhhhhh, what an interesting texture of fabric ....... hhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, don't have any idea WHAT to do with it ........ yet..........."

Is it a blend? or just a heavier cotton? I've got a few ideas, but just don't know yet what to make of it.

dawson.tracy35 08-17-2010 08:34 AM

I got more squishies today!

I got envelopes from megsann, fryguymoore, kwiltkrazy and ReneeBobby

They are so neat. I wish I had time to sew!!!!

Tracy

missgigglewings 08-17-2010 08:38 AM

Odessa: Good questions! I do know it sews like regular quilting cotton and is from a Robert Kaufman line. The only down side is that it does fray, but I think that is a minor thing! It will speak to you so have fun!

CraftsByRobin 08-17-2010 08:38 AM

Man ... things have been FLYING here ... :D For some reason sometimes I don't get the updates :/ makes me sad :( I will need to catch up ... glad to see squishies flying and landing safely :D

barbsbus 08-17-2010 09:37 AM

Another F8 came flying in today from Montanablu. I love the dainty print.

reneebobby 08-17-2010 10:59 AM

Got a squishy from leakus very pretty. I hope I still have the perfect fabric for it.

shaysmema 08-17-2010 11:39 AM

Nothing in the mail today :( . But I guess that gives me a chance to finish the ones I have. I love this swap and can't wait until tomorrow when I can run to the mailbox again.

kwiltkrazy 08-17-2010 11:49 AM

Wendsy--your block has sprouted wings and is flyinig its way home, all grown up. It even brings a mate. Hope you like them. Loved working with your colors.

KarenBarnes 08-17-2010 01:52 PM

I've received F8s from barbsbus, fryguymoore, kwiltcrazy, leakus, MegsAnn, missgigglewings, montanablu, moonrise, ReneeBobby, and Wendsy. I've got to be out of town this weekend and part of the week so have decided to let the F8s all become friends in the drawer and think on them next week! Too much fruit to bottle before then so no sewing, but I wish I could! We'll see what we come up with when we're not so sticky!

leakus 08-17-2010 03:06 PM

No squishys today. Buaahhhh. No, I am ok, I haven't started yet working on them but you won't believe what happened. As I couldn't go to my sewing room yesterday I grabbed a quilting book to read in the bed. As I said before, the butterfly fabric I felt was the more challenging to me- guess what, 2 pages into the book- there it was, the idea I had in my mind for this fabric materialized into a a beautiful block; so my problem is solved. I just need to find the fabric and figure out the measurements for our size block. I'll see if today I can at least cut the fabric..... let me go to the sewing machine.... un-glue the keyboard from my fingers!

oatw13 08-17-2010 04:21 PM

I received a lovely F8 from montanablu today. :)

letsquilt 08-17-2010 04:29 PM

Kwiltkrazy, I recieved your f8 today, oh so pretty, think I
have something that will go great with it.

missgigglewings. I see water and tiny beautiful waves on it. Your fabric is saying to me: give me life!... fishies? I asked? I think it responded yes. Ok with you?

missgigglewings 08-17-2010 04:50 PM

Leakus..Of course is ok with me! Anything goes with me because I just want us to have fun and get 35 surprises in the mail!

Have you use this fabric before? How does it go with the regular cotton? I don't have any fabric with thicker thread as yours seems to be. Do you think I should use sort of a stabilizer on my regular cotton to make it similar to yours? What is your experience?

missgigglewings 08-17-2010 05:07 PM

Leakus: I have made 3 blocks with it and 100% quilter's Cotton from Hancock fabric. It did not need a stabilizer and the blocks turned out pretty. One was a dp9 I am working on. Treat it just like any other fabric you qould make a quilt with. It just frays a little!

moonrise 08-17-2010 07:08 PM

No squishies today.

However, I did get a firmie with squishies inside from fabric.com, so the day wasn't a total loss! ;) he he

What is a dp9 quilt? I've seen it posted a couple of times.

OdessaQuilts 08-17-2010 07:54 PM

moonrise, pics please! I wanna see what the lovely people @ fabric.com sent to you! I love them! They're the bomb!

Also got only 1 squishie today, but it's from kwiltkrazy and I think it's lovely. Can't wait to make it look bee-you-tee-ful!

I love fabric.com too! And they love my debit card! ;-)

Here's what I got today. Nothing too exciting. Just some blenders (green, wine, and dark wine), a tan fabric with circles on it, and a yard of red/orange/yellow leaves that's prettier in person than in my lousy photo.

KarenBarnes 08-17-2010 08:44 PM

I neglected to say that I sent all of my F8's out yesterday. Some of you closer to home should receive them tomorrow or Thursday!

OdessaQuilts 08-17-2010 09:11 PM

moonrise, the tan with circles and the red/orange/yellow with leaves are both pieces I lusted after, but quickly closed the screen ... I won't tell my husband how much $$ I spend there, but let's just say it's pretty substantial!lol

kwiltkrazy 08-17-2010 09:24 PM

A dp9 is a disappearing 9 patch. you make a 9 patch, make a 9patch, cut it in 1/4 and turn top left 1/2 turn and bottom right 1/2 turn sew back together, the 9patch is no longer there.

kwiltkrazy 08-17-2010 09:27 PM

Wow moonrise, drool city. They are gorgeous. Are they for a specific project?

I made your block today, also. That was a very nice blue and I liked the wiggly line in it. I had some fabric that nearly jumped out of the drawer to be a mate to the blue. They share a common texture-look, though mine is ordinary cotton fabric. It turned out great. I'll be sending out in a day or two. I want to get a handful ready before I go to the post office.
