Welcome back elisabrat. Yeah we keep waiting for the BIG Storm to hit So. CA. Right now it is sunny. I have jury duty today. Here in Orange Co the rule is......you go to the place in the city they have designated. You sit all day and wait to see if you get in on a jury. If not you go home and that is it for a few years until you get called up again. I know every county does it differently. so off I go to do my civic duty. I hope I don't get picked because I am going to a quilt show tomorrow with a friend and then on Friday we have a quilt run. LOL. I don't think that would be a good excuse to get out of jury duty. although I have never been on a trial and maybe that would be interesting. Well off to starbucks and then Santa Ana.....I get to go to the Superior Court House.

travelinggramma 03-06-2013 03:27 PM

My DH offered to take my pile of adults to the PO. He won't do that again! They really saw him coming and for most of the envelopes they charged him package rates. Japan was actually cheaper than some of the US ones. They made him complete a form for Canada but not Japan! By the end just 10 envelopes cost him $20. Think I will go with the 6x9 envelopes next time and see how they fare. AND go to the next town over and see if their PO workers are quilters!

Phannie1 03-06-2013 04:08 PM

Received f8 from lovngrandma -- pretty carnation fabric

Here's all my blocks received so far --

moonwork42029 03-06-2013 05:30 PM

It makes a different on envelopes which way the "flap" goes. If it goes across the long part of the envelope it is considered a booklet envelope and will go like a birthday card type envelope. If the flap goes across the short part of the envelope it is considered a catalog envelope and goes at a higher rate. All of my USA ones have been between .69 and .89 give or take. It also depends on the thickness of the envelope -- that's why you need to iron and mash'm flat as a pancake.

Gaijin 03-06-2013 05:39 PM

It's also very inportant that your envelopes do not vary in thickness-then they become packages!

jaydee3 03-06-2013 07:08 PM

I really like it also. Do you have Hobby Lobby? They should have the stripe. I made a quilt with some of this fabric and the stripe as my backing. Love it.

Rec'd block from L.Dugas. I like it a lot. Will post it tomorrow. Thank you lots!

ninakk 03-06-2013 09:46 PM

Gosh, you are fast! I will be sewing this weekend and later next week - I am taking a break from Alaska and enjoying sunny Arizona for a few days :-)

Its 3:22 am here and I woke up with you on my mind April. Just want to tell you my prayers and thoughts are for you and yours! Hope your stay in the hospital is short and your recovery well. God bless you!

Elisabrat 03-07-2013 05:43 AM

April I am so sorry to hear your in the pits again. I know hospitals are not the place you want to visit anymore than necessary but if it helps then its always worth it. I would like you to know I always keep you and your daughter in my prayers. My momma used to say that growing old aint for sissys. I think life isn't for sissys. You deserve to live in the sunshine just as much as anyone. Keep up your spirits knowing these days shall pass too.

Lovingrandma I am so sorry to hear your so sick but glad your NOT in the hospital. I think these colds/flu's that are coming out are getting stronger and harder to kick. My dh had the flu recently and had a fever for 10 days. he is this big strong man and he was taken out. Its a tough one. Get well girl!!

The quilts I am seeing come together are amazing. Dad's quilt is a kick. so colorful and look at all the kitties!! Bet he loves it. And the beautiful floral brown fabric (I LOVED IT ... who makes it btw?) is going to be a great quilt. excellent choice. I love the group block photos and bet everyone else does too. I will take a pic of all mine later to show you but its so fun. Today is boom block day so another two will make it out of here. Yippeee! I have fabric waiting on the table to get whipped into action. I think today is going to be a great day. off to clinic see ya all a bit later on!

You picked a bad week to come to Arizona. The weather is turning cold and its going to rain. But compared to Alaska, it might be a pleasant change.

Have fun.

quiltingmommy 03-07-2013 08:52 AM

Moonworks & Moonrise how to you make a picture collage like you guys did? Let us know how--step by step would be the best if possible. It is so fun to see the finished blocks side by side as a virtual quilt. :)

I have had company this week so no blocks done so far, hopefully next week.

I do have a few F8's to get out still. I was planning to do so this week, but it doesn't look like I will get a chance soon.

babyfireo4 03-07-2013 09:08 AM

I haven't updated in awhile:

Received F8ths from: Dottie Dodge, lovngrandma, and both from Ninakk

Received grown-ups from: moonrise, ljdugas31, RoseIrish48, and Lestrong601

babyfireo4 03-07-2013 09:16 AM

I haven't received F8ths from Mosher92 orTracibug, not rushing just stating :) If anyone hasn't received a F8th from me please let me know and I'll send another. All of mine were mailed awhile ago and I think they should have had plenty of time to arrive.

My blocks are just on the design wall and I snapped a picture of all of them...no tricks here. They're just sitting up there for Dad to look at :)

I use a free program called PhotoScape. You can do all the regular photo editing stuff with it, but it also has nifty features like "combine", where you can combine a bunch of photos into one. Basically you click "combine", then "add", then choose the photos you want, then choose "checker" to lay them out in a grid, then tell it how many columns you want. You can add space in between the photos if you like. There are some other options, too, but that's the basics of it. Then save the combined photo. Go back into "editor" and resize it down to 600-700, save it, and it'll be ready to post online.

Here's a link to PhotoScape (free): http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/index.php

....

No mail today. :( Not even any bills, so I suppose I can't complain! :D

lovingrandma your block is on it's way home. I just have a small wall in my sewing room and thumb tacked a flannel backed table cloth to the wall for a design wall. Works great and you can take it down real quick. Here's a pic of all the blocks I have gotten so far.

Hello Everyone,
Thanks so much again for the warm thoughts and well wishes. Only pain now is incisional pain and some in the neck where the tubing pulled..other than that I almost feel like my old self again lol Plan on doing lots of sewing this upcoming week since I will be home all day and it is Spring break so no classes either-woohoo!
So here is my long over due update:
I still need F8 from:
country1
girlscouts1
lovngrandma
Mosher92
Tracibug

And here are completed blocks. Sorry they are mixed with my Atlantic blocks too because I sent out to random people just marked on my sheet who received which fabric LOL. If the pictures load correctly they should belong in the following order:

9 blocks for Izabella top to bottom left to right:
ljdugas, Paperpieceme, TheMamaHauser
Elisabrat, quiltingcraftylady, frenchfryqueen
dahna42, Tam...moo, TwinRiversFarm

Lingerie blocks for me again top to bottom left to right
Gaijin, Jaba
Joanelizbay, Joanelizbay

Orange Abstract Fabric again top to bottom left to right:
Lestrong601, Jaba
Arizona KAT, Moonrise

I love all of my blocks and cannot wait to see them all come together :)
Hugs
April

Tucson weather didn't look too bad :) And any place without snow is great!

Country1 03-08-2013 01:26 PM

I rec'd a grown up block from twinriversfarms today.
I most say you came out to your shell WONDERFULLY! Sorry you hate applique, but you do a wonder job at it!...
I love this block and the fabrics you used went so perfect with it.
Thank you again,
Country1

Country1 03-08-2013 01:32 PM

I would like to thank everyone for the blocks. This is only my 2nd swap and the last one was great too, but the creativity and quick turn around this time has made it so much fun. I will also add during the last swap I had alot of major family illnesses going on. Which is better now and I am having a blast this time. Thanks so much for helping me by making sewing/crafting blocks. I think this will turn into my favorite quilt!...
Country1

TwinRiverFarm 03-08-2013 04:00 PM

My pleasure! I admit I did have fun doing it. Sshhh, don't say that too loud...

Receid this beatuiful block from NanaKathy. Picture isn't too swift as it is snowing outside and dismal inside!
I went into Prescott today to the wonderful Fabric/craft second time around store. Needed to match a few F8's for colors that weren't in my stash. It is a great place - they take all your stuff, give you a credit and resell. They usually charge $5 a yard and everything is rolled up into FQ all the way up. Great organization with colors in seperate bins. Had a credit but spent way over that! BUT they had a sale - BOGO at 1/2 off. So that brings it down to under $4 a yard for quilt store quality material (they are really picky as to what material they take)
Now the weather is to be miserable the next two days so I will have time to sew sew sew!!!
