Feel better soon, Judy!
No mail in the last few days. All F8's that I've received have been completed and should have arrived back home by now. :) I haven't received F8s from girlscouts1, Mosher92, and Tracibug. |

Ladies, I just wanted to let you all know I haven't forgotten about sewing blocks. I got a huge chunk out before the semester crunch started. I will start hitting things hard again after Easter break. My MIL is coming to see my husband before his deployment and then we've got the holidays and spring breaks and things are just a little too much right now.
On the other hand... I can say that I have a deadline and use it as an excuse to get a break from everyone... options, options. Anyhow, the blocks will be coming soon enough... just not yet. |

Thank you for your dedication and hard work that families go through during deployments...I know they are not a piece of cake that so many think they are. Thank your husband from our family also. Anyone in the service during these troubling times deserves a heartfelt round of gratitude and admiration. |
Sorry grandma...that is from joanelizbay. I forget there are two Joans and forget to put my board name...I guess I assume everyone should know who I am :) Glad you liked it

Thanks :) Honestly, after 12 deployments (this is our 13th) it isn't that huge of a deal to me anymore. It's always been there with us since we got married and my son has always grown up dealing with it. The hard part is being both mom & dad and/or the only grown-up to deal with stuff for 7-8 months at a time. I've learned a lot about planning, back-up planning, and crisis planning. I feel like as long as I can have a plan for every possible outcome, then I can focus on living while he's gone and not just sitting around waiting for the other shoe to drop (so to speak).
This is most likely our last deployment before he retires and it's going to be the most complicated - we moved away from all our family since the last deployment and I'm going to be student teaching (which is stressful enough) while he's gone. I won't lie and say that I'm not worried about something going wrong and not having Meemaw up the road to come help with Midget if he gets sick. I keep telling myself that as long as we make it to Dec 17th, I won't complain about anything that goes wrong starting Dec 18th. I just need calm water and sunshine & jellybeans until then. I commend your DIL for doing deployments with 3 kids. 1 is more than enough for me when his father is HERE! I can't image more than 1.

Oh gosh, hate to hear about him being deployed! My son has been through 3 deployments and I admire my daughter in law so much for how she has handled it with their 3 little girls.

Hello everyone,
I am sorry I have been MIA. I thought all went well with my surgery on the 7th but apparently not :( I am going back in on Tuesday for a complete replacement of my VP Shunt. Hopefully it works! Keeping everything I have crossed that it does lol I just want to post that by now all F8s should be mailed. I understand we all get behind and have 4 months to make blocks but the F8s do need to be out fairly quickly (within 3 weeks) to allow everyone proper time to think about block & fabric choice and not have to rush a block back home. Hugs April |

I got two great blocks in the mail today from Moonwork and Travelinggramma. Will post pictures this weekend. I am dealing with a "frozen shoulder." and it is taking all my energy trying to work and deal with the pain. Waiting on a MRI to see what the doctor wants to do at this time. I am just tired of dealing with this... going on about 7 months.
I am finishing up the binding on my shelter quilt that was from the last boom swap. will post those pictures too this weekend. Phannie |

First let me diddo what Moonwork so elequently said. Thank you to your husband Kelly and to you for standing strong as that is a big big job too. Good luck with the visit from the MIL.
Second still some fabrics not in yet but I am not going to stress it. If you send it to me after the boom however you will get it back in one piece. I am sorry but that is what I will do. I will work hard on all of your blocks to make you something you can enjoy but I do allocate the time during the boom. After that I am off doing other projects (like putting booms together) and thats the best I can do. On a happy note! I received two blocks in yesterday. I think they are so pretty and would love to send thanks to both of you. These are with fabric I sent that is vintage and are the first of the 8 I sent of these that came back. LOVE IT! Lovngrandma, I haven't forgot you, I will be mailing you your block and some patterns on Monday!

elizabrat is this comment about any F8's you haven't gotten yet??? Or is it that you are anxious to get your g rown up blocks back. I was confused. I know there are some people in our group who have been really slow in sending out their F8's. Maybe if they sent an explanation as to why everyone would be not so anxious about getting their F8. Then again we don't know what is going on with their lives and maybe they can't communicate with us and none of their family members know how to contact us either. Strange things have happened. I just pray that nothing serious is going on in their lives that is preventing them from joining in. I can understand those who have all their grown up blocks made and sent off to their mommies and they are still waiting on some F8's to come in. It's like you are all finished and you can go on to some other project and then all of a sudden you get an F8 sent to you and you have to stop and go back to that. I understand that. But I try to remind myself that we have until June 1 and because I am in all 5 groups......I will be finished by the middle of April if I keep going at the pace that I have set for myself. Yeah. I love seeing the pictures everyone posts. We are definitely going to have some really awesome quilts and I hope when everyone gets their's all together and finished that they will post a picture so we can see the finished product. Well back to the sewing machine.............busy busy busy. |
I'll never get the mailman straight. He use to come between 2 - 4 in the afternoon. I could finish a few blocks and get them in the mail by then. Now he is coming between 8 and 9 am. Grrrrrrr. So I have to remember to rund downstairs and put the blocks out in the mail in the early morning. I am lucky to be function by 8 am. don't know why he switched. When I first moved her 12 years ago, the mail came at 8 -9 pm at night. so weird. The post office is half a block a way too.

Urgodschild I was talking about people who still havent sent their fabrics. I know life happens and things get out of our control. That said then just skip it and say so. and if you dont say so I still feel its my right to say after June 1st please dont send me your f8's to sew. I am sewing them now. and getting them done which feels really good. I think this is reasonable and its a way that works for me. You know how hard I have struggled and what life has thrown at me. I get people get sick, injured, family troubles .. life. I do. It would be good of the people who haven't sent just say why. That to me is not so hard. I was hospitalized last year and had my daughter go online in this account and explain why my item hadn't been sent and where I was. And btw if I do get any extras that come late your more than welcome to tackle them if you like :) sharing and all is a good thing too :)
ok off to sew more blocks. two done this morning goldendog's and twinrivers. I have a third laid out on the table time to pick a block to go with it. Its been a good sewing morning. I love when that happens. |
Received 3 more grown-ups this week. NanaKathy55, Country1, and travelinggramma. Thanks everyone for the lovely blocks. I'm slowly working on making grown-ups, aka. struggling with a difficult paper/foundation pieced block, it's looking great but more coplicated than I'm used to! On the plus side something new is being learned :)
|
I've tried paper piecing and it is a lost cause for me. LOL. No Ellzabrat I don't want to do any of your blocks. LOL I have plenty of my own. Hey I am up to number 44.

Wow paper piecing is intimidating and also frustrating for me. I love the look but boy oh boy its not my friend. I think a class is due in that unfortunately me and classes are not happening so until then I will admire from afar.
Lovingrandma I hope you find some helpers for you. It sounds like a simple help request thats all and no trade backs surely there are some with time who would gladly assist you. I will take four. just not rushing to return them until I get my boom finished next week I think give take and they will be finished minus the unsents yet. Urgodschild a woman in distress surely you can take four too? |

Update for my "frwappers"...that's friends and swappers combined! Surgery on my thumb joint was Thursday and today (Saturday) I almost feel human. Pain management is under control (somewhat) and I can sit here and pick out the fabric and patterns for the rest of the F8s, and do a little 1 finger typing and texting! The splint comes off on the 25th and a purple cast will go on for 4 weeks! Qll of your grown up blocks will be done and mailed out on time!
