Boomerang Friendship Swap 10.0-MAIA Group (Fast)

Boomerang Friendship Swap 10.0 MAIA Group :)

Mailing deadline for completed blocks will be September 10,2013.

Hello and welcome to the Boomerang Friendship Swap. This swap is about a great opportunity to get a large number of blocks from all over the world made by our online quilting friends.

How it works:
1) You will select a fabric or selection of fabrics from your stash (or you can buy new-up to you) and cut them in to Fat Eighths (18 x 11) or (9x22) We prefer the 18 x 11 for this swap as it gives a bigger cutting area for certain blocks but either measurement will work.
2) You will send each member in the swap one F8 to work with. The person who receives the fabric will make you a block with your fabric in it.
3) You may advise the person of colors you would prefer they use or not use but please do not request specific blocks. This is meant to be a “friendship” swap where your friends pick, design and create a beautiful 12.5” unfinished block for you based on the fabric you send them.
4) In turn you will receive an F8 from each member in the swap and have to make them a block.

Rules/Guidelines:
(please make sure to also refer to the basic policies that apply to all swaps announced through the board: http://www.quiltingboard.com/member-...-a-t20154.html)
1) Please make sure all fabric is prewashed prior to making the block and sending it home. You do not have to wash the fabric you receive.
2) When sending your fabric please make sure it is in some kind of sealed item (Ziploc baggy, saran wrap) with a piece of paper or even a peel-off label with your name, address and quilt board name so that the items are protected and won’t get mixed up. Please do this when returning blocks as well. (This way if for some unhuman reason the PO mangles a package the plastic has a chance at saving the work and with an address visible it just might make it home)
3) Please mail your F8 within one (1) week of receiving the address list. This helps ensure we all have ample time to work on everyone's blocks.
4) Please handle all fabric received with the utmost care and place it somewhere where it won’t be lost or forgotten about.
5) In order to help keep track of the blocks sent and received I will be emailing out a chart to all members who participate so that you may fill it in as we go.
6) All blocks should be 12.5” unfinished. They can be regular pieced, paper-pieced, appliquéd-whatever the quilter decides to do. It is up to each individual. Again the feeling is to get a true friendship quilt out of this. Please do not request specific blocks as the idea is to let everyone, of every level join in and try new things and grow.
7). Please remember to trim your threads, cut your dog ears...in essence remove any excess work from the back of your block that the receiver should not have to worry about. We do not want to have any extra bulk in these blocks that are not needed (harder to quilt them :-) )
8) You may sign the back of the block if you wish to or perhaps pin a small muslin square with your name, where you live and what the name of the block is.
9) Please measure your block before mailing it. We all started somewhere but it is nice to be able to get all the blocks back measuring the same size so the quilt can go together nicely. So measure, measure and when you think it is right, measure once more
10) Please make a block that you yourself would be happy and proud to call your own.
11) This is a one block per swapper swap. You will have to make one block for each member in your group (not including yourself.)
12) Please be courteous to our swappers and post when you receive either someone's fabric or a completed block. This helps us to know the postal gremlins are not at work lol If for some reason you cannot get on the board to post please let me know and I will let the members know. We appreciate interaction with all of our swappers. You can do a weekly update as well if that works better for you.
13) Have FUN!!! This swap will let you explore your creativity as you do not have to make the same block for everyone. You can try that block you always wanted to. Try new fabrics, new colors...step outside of your comfort zone in to a different box

PLEASE DO NOT SEND FABRICS/BLOCKS WITH PERFUME OR OVERWHELMING FRAGRANCES ON THEM DUE TO ALLERGIES. THERE MAY BE MEMBERS OR FAMILY MEMBERS WHO HAVE SEVERE ALLERGIES TO CERTAIN THINGS SO PLEASE TRY YOUR BEST TO NOT SEND ANYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE AN ATTACK

Also please remember when posting on the board to use members board names or just first names and not their full names. This is a courtesy to our members as the information here can be seen publicly and we do not want anyone to have that private info.

Please, NO public complaints or criticisms of other swappers, items received, or other type for any reason. ALL complaints must be addressed by Private Message (pm) to me. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE!!!!!

Just one more friendly reminder-please make sure your packages have proper postage on them-if you are unsure either take them to the PO or throw another stamp on. We do not want anyone to have to incur any extra expense during this fun time. Also be aware postage could run high on this swap so if you think that may be an issue you may not like this swap.

I think you will find yourself enjoying the blocks because you can work at your pace as they come in as long as they are all out by the established deadline once the swap is closed.

As always please feel free to PM me with any questions or concerns-I am always happy to help.

Hugs
April

yippie, ready to go in the mail in the Morning! oops, just figured it out, saw your challenge and sent answer... I did cheat and googled it! You know modern technology and all!

jaba 07-09-2013 08:03 PM

She was a goddess in the Roman Empire. All these names are goddesses of Greek or Roman legends. Addressing envelopes in the morning and then mail. Can't get it to mail merge, oh well, not many names and only 2 groups this time around. MT when will you be here? No excuses missy you said you were coming on this trip.

mollymunchkin 07-09-2013 08:04 PM

Marytoddliz, Maia is one of the Pleiades in Greek mythology, one of the 7 daughters of Atlas as are the other groups.

marytoddliz 07-09-2013 08:06 PM

Very interesting reading on wikipedia about them!

Janice McC 07-09-2013 08:25 PM

Good morning ladies. Looks like we're all set! I should mail my fabric tomorrow, um, today! It's a black and white floral that will coordinate with many other fabrics. I'd appreciate it if you would use brights whenever possible; please steer clear of pastels. Solids or patterned fabrics, totally your choice. And you are welcome to keep leftover fabric if there is any or you can return it if it's of no interest to you. I look forward to seeing your fabrics and making blocks for all of you!

marytoddliz 07-09-2013 08:40 PM

Yes, Jan I am still planning to come to Wyoming in late Sept, I will keep you posted, just wish I was going there now! Mine are all done going out in the Morning!

I can't wait to start! getting squishies in the mail!

Libster 07-10-2013 03:22 AM

Hi, Ladies. I got my list and I'm so looking forward to all of the coming fun! Can't wait to start getting those squishies. I have to add addresses to mine and they're ready to go into the mail. All of my info on the list is correct. Let the fun begin!

Elisabrat 07-10-2013 04:13 AM

OK if your mailing to the PO box that is on the list its ok its Jan's mail to she will give them to me. IF YOU HAVENT ADDRESSED your envelope for me yet PM for my address. I have moved in now and its ok to send mail to my home. Yippee! either way Jan is only down the street so I will get them.

I know your excited to see that I am back in action and ready to be my goofy old self here in our chats. My nick name here is Brat so feel free to use it when addressing me. My fabrics are Christmas as I figured the fast group would actually get them back to me in time to make good use of them. Not super exciting but my daughter will love them I think :)

Happy Quilting everyone! ok the group name is a greek goddess. why couldnt we be say pears or oranges easy to remember lol (I can't remember crud)

awilson 07-10-2013 05:24 AM

I hope to get the envelops in the mail soon. Mine are all different kids prints. Right now my adorable grandson, 3 months old, is staying at the house with his parents. They came back from being missionaries in Africa. He was born in Africa. I want to make a nice play quilt for him with fun different fabrics so he can look for the different theme print in each block. Here are the fabrics I will be sending out. I hope people can add other boy prints and or brights. No all black or white fabrics please.

LovingIzabella 07-10-2013 06:38 AM

Hello Everyone,
Janice was nice enough to create a mail merge of the labels and send it to me. If anyone wants it, please let me know and I will gladly forward it to you!

Ladies,

I will get mine mailed out this weekend. i work long days and may not have time to get them ready. I still not sure what I am going to send, plenty in my stash I may close my eyes and grab off the shelf and cut and send.

Will have them out by Monday at the latest.

Looking forward to making, sending and receiving some great blocks.

LovingIzabella 07-10-2013 07:00 AM

EVERYONE PLEASE NOTE YOU HAVE TO ADD COURT to the end of Sunrise's street. So very sorry for that!
Hugs
April

Janice McC 07-10-2013 07:21 AM

All envelopes have been sent with the exception of Brat's. Am holding it for the address change. I did make Sunrise's add change before mailing. Now it's just time to wait for envelopes to start coming in!

marytoddliz 07-10-2013 07:52 AM

In the mail, I already had Brat's new address! I am so special... ok maybe not, but well you know you are special when you have a bestie named Brat!

I try to finish the blocks in the order I get them, you know FIFO... unless I have a real special fabric that talks to me and I just have to go shopping for it!

So we are Greek Goddesses, how cool! I want to know all about our special Greek Goddess, she was the oldest sister! We get to tell the others what to do yes??? hehe ok time to go get some weeds out of my poor flower beds!

Happy Sewing ladies~

QuilterMomma 07-10-2013 08:33 AM

Checking in. the mailman has already come by today, I know 9:00 am, so I may not get in mail today, but will go out tomorrow, unless I have time after work to drop at the po box. will see. But the fabric is cut and ready to send out for this group. Um, did you want the lilies or the dark floral for this group? Giving you a choice, both are cut and ready to send.

Annaquilts 07-10-2013 08:42 AM

I definitely like the Lilies so I vote for that one. It reminds me of Hawaiian prints.

Elisabrat 07-10-2013 08:44 AM

oh oh how about the lily fabric for me?

QuilterMomma 07-10-2013 08:58 AM

Ok, you got it girl. On their way in this group.

awilson 07-10-2013 09:10 AM

Just left the PO and all fabric is on its way! So glad the swapping has begun. I can begin enjoying to check the mail again. Bills are so much easier to get when their is fabric in between:)

joanelizbay 07-10-2013 09:11 AM

Lilies for me too please!

Update on Brat's envelope. I got the address just in time to give it to my mail carrier so it too is mailed out. Done - for now!

The others will need to wait till I get more envelops. I did not realize I was out. Hopefully the others will get out tomorrow.

QuilterMomma 07-10-2013 10:19 AM

i realized that I am a little short on the lily fabric till I get another quilt quilted. I used it for the backing. So I have 12 ready to go out. Unless of course, some of you don't mind having two pieces instead of one large one.

I don't mind two pieces. It gives my brain a challenge :)

Libster 07-10-2013 11:00 AM

All of my fabric is making its way home to y'all. FYI- I used saran wrap, a small note in each one, and a white business size envelope. Domestic mail was 66 cents for each one. Japan was $2.05. Since there are some of us in more than one group, I wrote on the back flap of the envelope which group it was for. Hope this helps.

catgirl807 07-10-2013 11:45 AM

Dropped everything off at the post office this morning!

sunrise450 07-10-2013 01:00 PM

I will send my fabric hopefully in tomorrow's mail. Everything is ready except for addresses. I am so excited to be swapping with all of you.
Is this the fast group or the slow group? I guess it doesn't matter becuse I will be sending them out as I get them in.
Phyllis

LovingIzabella 07-10-2013 01:33 PM

Phyllis this is the fast group ;)

Beth, I don't mind smaller pieces, or piece. I too like the challenge!

I am working on my block, I figured it would be fun to make a few. I was a little short on the fabric I bought when I was in Washington so when I was at Walmart I saw some and bought it! Not realizing it was a different back ground color, so some will get Pink back ground and some will get lavender, but I would like all to use the Green Blue and Pink Neon from the butterflies. If you don't have any of those colors maybe a white or a WOW... No biggie, what ever works!

I took mine to PO and had the clerk check to see if the postage was right, she said yep, it cost me 66 per envelop, I got the event envelopes from Walmart, and for the returning blocks I got the manila envelopes, the clerk told me the 66 cent stamp should work on them also, depending on the weight and the thickness!

Annaquilts 07-10-2013 03:28 PM

You can send me one small piece or two small pieces. I'll make it work.

jaba 07-10-2013 03:39 PM

I posted earlier Beth you could send me the smaller too. Mine are in the mail, 66 cents also, and on the way to you. I did include a note with mine that I would like you to use solid black please. Also just as a reminder to our new members, be sure and measure to have that 12 1/2" square. It helps more than you know when you go to put your quilt together, and way less hassle for the one receiving.

catgirl807 07-10-2013 03:59 PM

I hope you don't have any extra charge with mine. The clerk at my post office asked me what was in them, and I told her a small piece of fabric, and she said to just use a forever stamp. Hope they make it!

last swap was my first time so I went out and bought a 12.5 in. Square ruler. This really helped! This time I bought a rotating cutting mat which I think is also going to be really helpful.

LovingIzabella 07-10-2013 04:45 PM

I'd love a rotating cutting mat!! That is perfect for this swap. Have fun everyone!

I got all the fast group in the mail this afternoon, after hours. I put two different F8's in the 3 envelopes for the 3 that have both groups. Also marked fast on each envelope!
