February Mini Quilt Swap

February Mini Quilt swap

February theme “Well aren’t we LUCKY!”

Sign-ups close January 31, 2015

For this swap we will be making miniature quilts. The suggested size is 6-18 inches or anywhere in between, finished. Square, round, rectangle, hexi, it’s up to you.
(If you and your partner decide to go slightly bigger, that is up to the two of you)

The theme is “Well aren’t we LUCKY!”
(St. Patricks Day/Green/Shamrocks/Pigs?)
either your literal interpretation or just the color way you choose.
The little quilt must have a top, batting and backing and must be bound. You can use any method you wish to fashion the top, piecing, appliqué, whole cloth, thread painting etc.

This will be a partnered swap. Each partner will make a mini quilt for the other.
(Partners cannot impose requirements or expectations upon each other.)

Please PM tlambing by Saturday, January 31st to sign up. I will then match up names and get them out to you by the evening of February 1st . You will have until February 28th to mail your tiny quilt to your partner. This is a FIRM DEADLINE!
Please don’t sign up unless you can commit fully to this deadline.

Please pm the following info to tlambing if you wish to join us:

*if you’re a returning player, I have your info :p just send me your name and any changes*

Board name:
Real name:
Phone # :
(this will not be given to your partner, this is for my use only in the event that a problem should arise)
Do you have any allergies:
Do you have any allergens (cats, dogs, smoker etc.)
Can you ship internationally:
Do you have the ability to post pictures:

As soon as names are given, please contact your partner right away.
Please contact me asap if you are having trouble getting in contact.
Please continue to post on the thread throughout the swap. Let everyone know of your progress, post sneak peeks and encourage other swappers. It’s so much fun seeing everyones progress and sharing in our quilting friendship.

Any swapper that fails to follow through and does not contact me and their partner will be banned from any of my future swaps and will receive bad (swap)feedback. I know that sometimes things happen that are out of our control, I certainly would take this into consideration, but you MUST COMMUNICATE.

****Please make sure to read the general rules that apply to all swaps here on the quilting board****

I am required to insist that participants send me, tlambing, at least 1 PM during this month long swap to verify that they are still active in this swap and are working on their promised project.

I am required to insist that participants notify me, tlambing as soon as they have finished their quilt and are ready to mail it.

Once I have received notice that both partners are ready to mail, I will send each of you a pm to let you know it’s time to mail.

I am required to insist that all participants send me, tlambing verification of shipment, including tracking information.

Participants are required to insure that packages will not arrive “postage due”

Any and all other fees, such as import duties, taxes, etc imposed by the recipients government are the sole responsibility of the recipient.

Absent legitimate and reported mitigating circumstances, participants who have not fulfilled their obligation to ship by February 28th shall be deemed as “late” and risk receiving Negative (swap) feedback.

Please keep in touch with me and your partner as required. Please let me know right away if something happens that will interfere with your ability to complete your project on time.

Swappers should treat each other as friends and focus on the fun. So…please be prepared to be flexible, patient and understanding if necessary and appropriate.

I'm new to this type of swap and have never made a mini quilt. However, I'm really excited about this opportunity. It sounds like so much fun!

Question. I have been considering a mini quilt but don't really know what constitutes a "mini". .eg: small pieces? Or just small size? I usually work with 1-2 in finished pieces making a block of 9 in or so.. Ideas would be
appreciated and maybe I can join you next month.

It's just overall size of your finished project. 6-18 inches has been the range for us. However you wish to accomplish this is up to you. pieced, appliqué, whole cloth etc..
We'd love to have you. We are a great group and there are many new folks signing up this months so you wouldn't be the only "newbie"
PM me if you're interested.

I second that giggle. :D

kiffie2413 01-28-2015 12:02 PM

And I'm so happy you ladies "get" my humor...I sometimes read back what I've written, and I think my insomniac posting may be a lil like drunk dialing :p
Though I must admit I've never done the latter...I can't begin to imagine my posts IF I did drink

Regards,
Kif

Teresa can I rethink my pig idea? lol... It just doesn't work with this them. I haven't seen a St.Patrick's Day or green pig that I could pull off. :D Not so sure now I want to try. lol... I think my loopy brain is getting the best of me.

Cheesehead 01-28-2015 07:54 PM

Susan, I went to the quilt store and asked if they had fabric that had pigs with wings, they looked at me like I was nuts! Well, maybe I am but I haven't been able to come up with a idea to incorporate a pig into the mini quilt. So for now I am thinking shamrocks, but have to agree, it's not as exciting as pigs!

I am picturing a Leprechaun piggy with a top hat and pipe...dancing a jig next to the end of a rainbow with its pot of gold! You can whip that up can't you JuneBillie?

Fiestypixy 01-29-2015 03:42 AM

I have a Valentine's day fabric in an ISpy quilt that is pigs in valentines day pajamas. Surely, there must be a leprechaun pig... Or a pig flying over a rainbow somewhere.

Elisabrat 01-29-2015 05:55 AM

I wish I could do this one! the concept excites me but not knowing if I can get it done in time. the pigs I have seen (look up on the net vintage st. patricks day post cards) usually are frolicking with a hat or just a pig lol pink not green and shamrocks and a lucky horse shoe also on the darned card. clapsaddle has the best examples they were the big manufacturer of these cards at the turn of the century. big popularity. I have four of them :) will see if I can find an example to cut and paste here. I did not make up the pig thing I swear to you. It took seeing several of them to check out why the heck they put pigs on the cards as it sure did not make sense to me. then the reasoning came of famine and Food and well duh. yeah that is a lucky thing. so pigs could be any pig in pink with just a green ribbon around his neck or a fancy hat on. and you can see they are not a requirement I just posted it for the fun of it. each month I look for a post card that I have not seen or have to have. you should see the turkey one I have wearing a holster and guns and a cowboy hat. I love that card. I had a yard full of wild turkeys and well loved them. I also have a household full of old western photo's and horses and well cowboy stuff. :) so a combo of two loves? oh yeah. shoot a turkey and I am a grumpy bucket. don't shoot MY turkeys . but put them on the wall and enjoy a cartoon of them there instead.

see pigs on post cards! now can you see why I was wondering what the heck with the pigs???

tlambing 01-29-2015 08:25 AM

Still lots of room for more swappers. Sign ups close Saturday, names out on Sunday :) Come and join us!

tesspug 01-29-2015 11:35 AM

Oh cute. http://www.pinterest.com/pin/364439794816195475/

JuneBillie 01-29-2015 01:49 PM

Those cards are really cute, and went to that pinterest one too. So cute. Ok, I will come up with a pig in my mini, but maybe with some other things too. Please let tlambing know if you don't want one with a pig in it so you won't get my name. lol...Seriously though, some may not want that.

My January mini was mailed today. It is on it's way. I am pleased with how it turned out, and I included a couple of little goodies.

klaws 01-29-2015 04:31 PM

Only 2 more days to sign up for the pincushion & needlecase swap. Please came and join us. We are a fun group!

tlambing 01-30-2015 09:06 AM

If you're apprehensive about joining for February...just remember, the theme is only a suggestion. You do not have to make a true St. Patrick's mini. You could just go green. A mini pieced in greens, yellows, black, whites and golds would be very pretty.
Sign ups close tomorrow! Hope you join us!
