Karen, I think your hot chickens are really great! They'll add some great variety to all the other appliques.

sandpat 02-12-2010 04:58 PM

Charismah...I got your sets today! They are sooo cute! In the box they go to wait with the other biddies..

Here is my first set of blocks (6x6"). These funky chickens are really addicting! I'm planning to work on my 12x12" funky batik chickens this weekend and hope to do another 6x6" set of Chicken Dance chickens after that (counting my chickens before they hatch    ). Having fun!!!!

Thanks, Karen. Glad you like 'em.

athenagwis 02-13-2010 02:16 PM

Okay so I am so in on this one!! I looove chickens, I have a weird obsession with them ... though i don't tell many people as i don't really want my house overrun with them as I think they might lose their luster for me that way. I am one of those where too much of a good thing is too much. So I have a few special chicken pieces here and there and I so love them. I think a chicken quilt is just the ticket for me!! My goal is to make enough blocks to get one of each that you guys make, but I don't know if I will have enough ambition to do that!! LOL so you can put me down for 3 groups for now and I'll update when/if i do more......

Love the ones I am seeing so far!! I bought some fabric tonight just for this, so I'll be sure to post mine as I do them ....

Cheers!
Rachel

Cute

athenagwis 02-13-2010 02:51 PM

Already made a quick block! :) :) It's a wee block, but I figured with all the funky sizes going on we'll need some fill ins to get everything together right!! :) So this is a 3 incher, but I'll also be making some bigger ones for my other packs. Tried to make it a little funky, though it's not too easy with a block that small!! :)

Anyway, I am proud of myself for having not purchased any fabric. I did get fusible web and tear-away stabilizer, so I think I will be able to get started on my blocks in the next week or so.

A group did this quilt and entered in our guild's quilt show, and it was so funny!! Groups of people would just stand in front of it and laugh and laugh!!! It's really cute.

athenagwis 02-13-2010 05:11 PM

Made another one! This one will be 6" finished ....I call it "To Get to the Other Side" :) :) :)

I kinda copied Lisa773's chicken, I like that shape for the chicken .... I hope you guys like it. I'm not sure if the striped chicken is too busy with the background....

ConnieF 02-14-2010 03:54 AM

athenagwis 02-14-2010 09:25 AM

Okay that zebra chicken was really bugging me, so I placed a cut out of a polka dot over it, and i think I like it better, it doesn't blend as much as the zebra. Please let me know which one you like better, since these will be ending up in your hands be honest!!

susiequilt 02-14-2010 09:31 AM

Definitely the brown one.
It stands out much more.
Cute idea.

charismah 02-14-2010 09:56 AM

I like either one...the blocks are just adorable!

MadeinMaine 02-14-2010 11:30 AM

Both are cute! Maybe the zebra one just needs a small triangle "wing" of a different colored print in the center to give it an accent. ??

sandpat 02-14-2010 11:39 AM

The polka dot does certainly stand out more from the background...but I think MadeinMaine might just be onto something there....maybe add something to make the poor guy stand out a little bit more?

MadeinMaine 02-14-2010 11:59 AM

Thanks. Also, maybe some colored thread around the next zebra one. I have used a small amount of zebra fabric in my 12x12 blocks so I would love to see you stick with a few more zebras (half/half maybe??). They are just so cute no matter which fabric :D

MadQuilter 02-14-2010 12:24 PM

I like the zebra one.

athenagwis 02-14-2010 03:10 PM

Okay I took all your suggestions together and tried something new .... It's a little wonky cause it was just a quick put together, but what do you think? I added a polka dot wing and used black to outline the chicken instead of cream ....

Don't worry! if I don't go with the zebra for these ones, I have a cute pp chicken I plan to use the zebra for. I am thinking it might be easier to use the polka for the road chickens and then the zebra for my pp ones. I like it with the two tone, but I am not great at applique, so it's not coming out as clean as I would like for you guys ....

sandpat 02-14-2010 04:27 PM

Well Rachael...I think you are very industrious and I love them either way you do them...so...just go for it and have fun!

tuesy 02-14-2010 04:43 PM

LOVE these new chickens!! Ya know the drill Sandpat.. I want one of each! *LOL*

Here's my list of sizes that I'm doing.. (now that I got the pattern)

3x3 (egg)
6x6 (zebra chicken)
9x9 (doorstop chicken)
9x12 (70's chicken)

MadeinMaine 02-14-2010 06:11 PM

oooh can't wait to see the soup ones!! :) I am having so much fun making the blocks!! LOL Once I do the prototype, it's pretty easy to piece the rest as a bunch .... I would like to end up with a nice lap size quilt from this, so hopefully I can get a bunch of these done!! I can't wait to see pics of everyone else's blocks!! :)

Cheers!
