Marie, The Chicken Buffett book is really cute, some of those patterns just crack me up!

The picture doesn't show it very well, but each of the chickens is a different food dish... such as "Stewed Chicken," "Chicken Chow Mien," "Fried Chicken," and so on.

sew cornie 01-10-2010 01:20 AM

love your block Tuesy! :D

buttons are fine with me. i was thinking of doing the same thing, as I don't have an embroidery machine and I really stink at hand embroidery.

have my fabrics washed. still have to narrow down the pattern choices. i so much want to do more than one set, but will see what time allows.

susiequilt 01-10-2010 04:50 AM

These are soooo cute! I wish I had time.............

sandpat 01-10-2010 06:22 AM

Yes, wash first please...we want to make sure everyone plays well together

Misty...I think my fav is "Chicken ala King".. LOL!!!

sew cornie...just see how it goes, we have plenty of time!

susie...we'd love to have you join if you have time..a set is only 6 blocks

MadeinMaine 01-10-2010 06:32 AM

It's a Zebraken ... or Chickbra...depends on how you look at it.

Misty... Do you have an embroidery machine? I digitized a cracked egg.... I'd be more than happy to send you the file if you have can stitch it out.. Here's what it looks like..

MistyMarie 01-10-2010 11:42 AM

That is really cute, but I will have to applique my blocks because I don't have an embroidery machine. Sorry. Thank you very much though.

brookemarie19 01-10-2010 01:05 PM

tuesy... I love your cracked egg! Makes me want to go out and buy an embroidery machine.

sandpat 01-10-2010 04:14 PM

Tuesy...I have a machine! Aren't you doing it for the swap? If not..you can send it and I'll do it! ART file?

blueribbontoes 01-10-2010 05:49 PM

I say lets all do the Funky Chicken..

Happy Birthday lavandula girl!!! Hope it was a special one and wishing you many many more!

Thank you all for the comments on my block..:D

Sandpat... I didn't think of doing it myself, just thought when I saw the clip art that Misty posted that she might want to do an embroidered one..
I'd be more than happy to send it to you, only one problem. Embird won't convert to ART. Do you have something you can convert with? I always save in PES as that's what my machines use.. If you can, PM me your email and I'll send the file to you..I did it small so it'd fit into a 3x3 block

lavandula girl 01-10-2010 08:28 PM

Thanks for the bday wishes! I got to se the new Sherlock Holmes movie, and it rocked! And I had sushi. And I spent time with my chickens. And I got to play with my design wall... it was a day to make me say "Yippee!!" :-D

Anyway, I am proud of myself for having not purchased any fabric. I did get fusible web and tear-away stabilizer, so I think I will be able to get started on my blocks in the next week or so.

Misty those are adorable.

charismah 01-10-2010 11:13 PM

IS it to late to join this? IF not...then I think I want to join as well..but I need to decide what size blocks...and we can make roosters right?

No sign up deadline.... join us, it's fun!

sandpat 01-11-2010 06:31 AM

Lava....Happy belated birthday! Its probably a good thing that you didn't see me dancing in your honor  Sounds like you had a great day!

Tuesy..if you 'd like to do the little chicken yourself for the swap, thats ok too....I just think its too cute not to be included in the swap! I can convert the file. I'll send you a pm with my email addy..thanks!

Bettia, we'd love to have you join! If you'd like to do the little egg, join and then let me know and I won't do it.

Charismah...got you down! Yippee!

sandpat 01-11-2010 06:33 AM

Ladies, the Mods are making me set a sign up deadline..so I'm listing 15 March 2010. That would give someone 2 weeks to get their 6 blocks done before the mail date. Of course, if someone wants to join later and can still get them done...I'm sure we would welcome them also.

Ok guys, I need your opinion. I'm learning how to applique and so far so good, but I was wondering if the first two(on the bottom) will do or should I scrap them and make two more.... I still have to put eyes on all of them and my third (the top) I still have to do everything else. Thanks for your opinions on this.

lavandula girl 01-11-2010 09:00 AM

I like those! GAH! You ladies are going to force me into doing at least 2 sets, aren't you, so I can get all the cute chickens? You're killing me! Oh well, put me in for two sets, please, Sandpat...

brookemarie19 01-11-2010 09:10 AM

Oh yeah, sandpat, I forgot to tell you size for mine. 6.5 x 6.5 for these.... hopefully I can find another block I like to do more though. So far I have almost finished 3 so I'm sure I will do more. ;)

And happy belated birthday lavandula girl, I wasn't on yesturday so I missed it... oops.

blueribbontoes 01-11-2010 12:29 PM

Brookemarie, I LOVE IT....

sew cornie 01-11-2010 02:01 PM

Brookemarie, those are great! Very funky fabric  and congrats on tackling your first applique. Nice job!

I agree 100% - great job!

sandpat 01-11-2010 04:35 PM

Brookmarie, those are funky cute! Are you sure you don't know how to applique??? You are doing a bang up job...its fun isn't it??

Thanks to everyone for the compliments. It is my first time, just have to practice the stitching around then I'm good. Thanks again.... I think I'm gonna like applique after all.

blueribbontoes 01-11-2010 06:57 PM

Im a very mature manor, I chucked my chickens. I need something more... fun, funky.. fresh. Mine all looked a wee bit.. old? And old chicken stinks. (literally.) I am going to attempt to finish my farm sheep, then hit the quilting store and let my hair down. Im only 27, and Im being all fuddy duddy... lol!! This will be lots more fun when I stop overthinking!

tuesy 01-11-2010 07:29 PM

brookemarie.. I LOVE your chicken!! It's so cute!! You say this is your first time applique'? Surely your kidding us right? They look wonderful!! I hope I get one of yours..

Sandpat.. I'm gonna do another one. I found an even funkier chicken and I'm going to try to squeeze him into a 3x3 block.. so put me down for that please!..Now if by chance I can't sqeeze his fat pattooty in that small of block, I'll enlarge him to 6x6 or even a 12x12.. I'll let you know for sure though after I do another test stitch...the first one... well he looks like he's wearing sunglasses and does't brush his teeth!

Edited: I couldn't squeeze him into the 3x3.. he's just to tight in that space, so I'll do 6x6. :-D

You chucked your chickens? Is that like flinging them across the room? If so, did they have wings? If not.. did you have chicken and dumpling's for dinner?

I don't think you're being fuddy duddy...or were your chicken's fuddy duddy? Dress them up a bit ..maybe some pearls, diamonds, pink purse with shoes and hat to match... ya know.. bling..

kysmommy2 01-12-2010 01:34 AM

boy oh boy...reading all these posts makes me SO want to join this swap...not to mention the beautiful quilt that you referenced!!! I am going to look around for some patterns that I think I can tackle-that would qualify as funky--lol.
I will let you know for sure in the next lil' bit!

sandpat 01-12-2010 06:49 AM

BRT...thats funny, I can just see you chunking those chickens away....I like the added "bling" suggestion though...what about that...I don't know if you can digitize...or you could combine applique with the embroidery...couldn't you???

Kysmommy2...hop right on in!! I think its the "funky" part that is gonna be fun...or funny...anyway, the swap is turning out to be wayyy fun!

sandpat 01-12-2010 06:58 AM

Hey ladies...do you all check out the new group activities page for this swap listed in the 1st post on page 1??? We are up to 15 swappers  That page really makes it alot easier to keep up, but you need to let me know if I got something wrong...because, I know this is shocking, but I DO make mistakes...

I just now looked at it.. that's pretty slick.

You have me down for one 6x6... I'm also doing 9x9.. so 2 sets for me please!

Thanks Sandpat :D

lavandula girl 01-12-2010 05:56 PM

*singing* I got my faa-a-bric, I got my faa-a-bric!

brookemarie19 01-12-2010 06:09 PM

Well, I've done the stitching around my applique and I'm not so sure if I like it, but the hubby and kids think that its cool. Actually my daughter chewed me out when I said I didn't like them. I must say she is becoming very vocal when it comes to my quilting experiments. This has definitely been a learning block. First applique, then the stitching, and now I need to learn the button on my sewing machine to do eyes... man, don't you just love swaps.

Brook...that IS why I love swaps! I always seem to try to "stretch" my abilities iin the swaps and I learn to do so many things that I otherwise wouldn't even try. Now....where is the pic so we can ooohhh and aawwww over it too? Your DD sounds like she just knows what is right!

Lisa773 01-13-2010 06:45 AM

Sandpat,
If it's not too late, I would love to join the swap.
Please put me in for 2 sets of 9 1/2" blocks.

sandpat 01-13-2010 06:53 AM

Hi Lisa! Its certainly NOT too late, so glad you joined! I've added you to the list!

I have taken pics but have to get DH to put the on the comp for me... I always seem to erase instead of putting it on there. The camera doesn't like me anymore :( hee hee
