Oh that is a given. It would not make the whole trip otherwise. that would be the fun part for me. I would probbly string a piece of stabilizer on the longarm with this attached to it and then stitch it down. That is an idea to try first before I would do it. So do we get a photo of yours Anna?

    Whigrose here.
Well, let's see. I've cleaned my sewing room, advertised and sold two treadles, gone through and given away all but a few of my quilting magazines, started, completed and mailed my blocks to my November swap partner, helped with wood, baked pies and generally done just about anything I could to avoid having to make a decision on my R x Rs.

Alas, the time has come. No more avoiding the could of Must Do that is hanging over me.

Sometimes I'm pretty sure what I want, then my mind gets going with all the options. Right now I'm back at using the antique sewing machines I did up a bit back mixed with traditional blocks and Flying Geese. I almost threw these out a couple of weeks ago. Something said just move them to a corner of the design wall and so I did.

I attached a picture of them and if you have any thoughts or suggestions I'd love to hear them.

Mine will also be a wall hanging so the 60" wide may well be out the window.

    best,
    d

I see that piece of paper with some beautiful applique patterns, with those wonderful antique sewing machines, with those beautiful flying geese. I am thinking that you need to mix some of those blocks in with the antique machines in a pleasing configuration and we can build a 2 rows above and 2 rows down with that same antique theme going thru. Since you are thinking of keeping in the sewing room idea, we could do a spool block and make the strips for thread colors varigated and use wood fabric for the old time wood spools. Applique some needles with a sewing basket block to add for the sewing room. Also do a pincushion block a fabric block while keeping with those applique blocks on that piece of paper. If you were to send this around, that is what I would add to the mix. Since your colors are on the warm side of things, we probably have fabric that would contribute to that. I would set them in the row with two outside towards top and the middle towards bottom and frame around them as such, not knowing what the dimensions are of your sewing machine blocks.

    QM-
I have to tell you, dh was in here a bit ago and we were discussing how the little sampler blocks go with the sewing machines. Great minds think alike :-)

I have nailed the backgrounds - fairly easy to do since they came from a collection. I'm now looking for a couple of traditional blocks to add color and structure.

Hope to be able to share a pic maybe tomorrow or Thursday even if the row isn't constructed but in some sort of 'construction phase'.

BTW- Your ideas all sound great!

    best,
    d

Only because it is not one of my ufos I am trying to figure out. Going to take that SBS to quilting tonight and see what the gals think as well. Then see how much work I really want to do. (LOL)

    Progress report -
I am starting the applique stitching of my machines to their background then will join the blocks to make the row. My goal is to finish this row today then start my other R x R. Lofty goals but dh is away for the day, it snowed last night and I have classical music playing -- it all makes for the perfect way to spend the day.

Will post a photo when done.

    best,
    d

    Progress interrupted :-)
An accident happend just a few moments ago that changed my complete path for the RxR with my antique machine appliques. But it's good!

You see, I got the machines appliqued to their backgrounds and was auditioning options with fabrics, blocks, etc. I thought I wouldn't use the churn dash block so I stuck it up on my design board with some little sampler blocks I'm in the middle of. Then I was fussing with my Flying Geese strip that I really want to use because it adds so much color. The was hinting I needed his attention :-) and a breath of air so I slapped the FG strip on the board under all the little blocks. When I came back into the room it was an epiphany - Right! This is so right for me.

Now mind you, this is just a picture of what started my new direction and is far from thought out.

So, Ms Anna, would you still be interested in the challenge of working in one of the other two machines? Any one else maybe up to the task of working in the third machine? No hard feelings if you want to pass - and it definately would be one of those 'wait to see how it would work out' things. One thing I would ask is that the machines not be lined up under one another. I really prefer the sampler look vs linear.

So, what do you think? One too many candy corns or am I onto something?

    best,
    deb

I'd be honored to work on it and to be entrusted with one of your beautiful blocks. I am looking forward to working on what will be a stunning Row Robin.
