Thank you for your idea as well. Still waiting for my design wall…

Wide flannel, double layer, tacked to the wall can be removed and washed if desired. I used large acoustic tiles on my wall then tacked flannel over them so I could use pins for testing multi layers of fabric too. (testing different backgrounds/sashing/additional colors with my intended fabrics). Truly is a design wall for me.

For my design wall, I just used fleece. I attached office clips to it and hung it from 3M hooks on the wall. I tried a flannel backed tablecloth, but my blocks would not adhere to it. Maybe the tablecloth was not heavy duty enough, but my blocks stick to the fleece just fine.

Thank you for adding to the options. I actually haven't gotten around to this yet but hope to soon.

I'm guessing you found a solution but if not, what I did was to get a full size bed topper from Walmart, 2 of the 3M curtain rod hangers and a curtain rod. I poked holes in the topper and used zip ties to make loops. I strung the topper onto the curtain rod with the waffle side towards the wall and the smooth side out. I cut it to length. It works great. I can either pin or press pieces against it and they stay on. The toppers come in different bed sizes and are pretty inexpensive.

Thank you. That sounds like a great solution for you.
