Default Need Ideas For Storing Finished Quilts

I give most of my quilts away, but I've made a few for our own home. We use them all the time in the winter months, but summer is coming and I need to store them somewhere. I'd like to have them where I can see the quilts...all those pretty colors... even if they're just folded up. My problem is where to store them when not in use. Our house is a very small cabin/cottage, with not much in the way of wall space, or cabinets. I'd love to hear about some clever ideas on how some of you store your beauties...thanks.

Have you thought of a wooden ladder leaning again a wall? Take a look at these:

I use a wooden ladder leaned up against the wall and a tall bookcase

Thanks. yeah...the ladder idea is so cute, but I just don't have any place to put one. My house is very small. It's like living on a boat. I'm considering something very narrow at the end of the bed. A blanket rack is an idea, but they don't hold that many quilts. I have about 7, or 8 of them and more on the way. I'm also thinking of building a floor to ceiling, corner shelf unit. I've also seen quilts rolled up and stored on end in an open bin, but I would worry about the damage that might cause to the quilts.

This link shows more than one way other than ladders to store quilts. My cousin has a lot of quilts in her house. She swaps her seasonal all the time. Lighte weight spring and summer go onher beds during the season. She also puts sleeves on some of her quilts so they can go on the wall behind her sofa, etc or she will put them on her bed. Her end tables have openings to place some of her quilts. Some of her book case shelves are also places for quilts.

Maybe a small bookcase at the end of your bed. You could roll quilts and put them on the shelves and drape one over the top?

If you need to store some away from view, I like to use plain muslin pillowcases, washed without bleach or fabric softener.

If you can find an old crib side, you could hang it length-wise on a wall or a door, and put a few quilts between the rails so that you see a bit of each of the quilts on it. I have even thought of hanging the crib side from the ceiling, but that requires high ceilings.

Paint the crib side in whatever color works well in your home.

This may not work for your space, but I got a bunch of pool noodles and covered them with muslin. Then I rolled the quilts up and stood the noodle upright. For larger quilts, I taped (with archival tape) two noodles together. They stand nicely in the closet and could possibly stand in a corner.

A friend has a glass topped coffee table with a shelf beneath. She features 3-4 folded quilts, & rotates them with others that spend summer in the top closet shelf in pillow cases.
