mistiliz and I were both in Boomerang 2.0. It will be nice to meet her in person. I like meeting those I've swapped blocks with in the past.

I'm open for a swap or game. Not sure I need any "uglies". How does the Bingo game work?

Wine Woman 04-20-2011 05:06 PM

I'm up for swaps! As for ugly fabric - I have fabric its not disgustinly ugly - I just don't like it. Can I call that ugly?! If so I'm in! It's just not playing well with the others.

Feathers, I'm so glad you will be joining us. Could this be live entertainment for us if you have more than one glass of wine?! This ought to be fun its been awhile since I saw someone dancing on the table!! LOL

Karen, how many are secured for the weekend thus far? I'm nervous for you (and all of us) because of the big amount that is on your card! In know it all works out and I don't mind paying a little bit more if needed. More the merrier-and would be great to pay even less!!!!!

Just like the regular BINGO game except instead of B-4 the BINGO letters are in different colors of fabric and you pull a piece of fabric out of the bag and if that fabric appears on your card then you cover it with a button. We had a great time with it each time we've played it. We usually play for a fat quarter. Everyone brings a fat quarter and puts it in a bag and who ever wins the Bingo can reach in and take out a FQ. We could also do it with any kind of notion or potholder or pincushion prize and just put them in a bag and let each winner draw out what they want without looking in the bag.

I also have some word games where you unscramble words (Ex: Dresden Plate, California star, Spinning pinwheel, etc.) Whoever is first to unscramble their words that spell the name of a quilt block gets to reach in the bag for a prize.

KarenBarnes 04-20-2011 06:59 PM

These games sound fun! Jen, bring yours and we'll determine which ones we want to play? How about if we each bring 3 fat quarters or the equivalent of such? Ugly or otherwise! :)

I think our paid people is at 6 now. I have 16 who have replied they want to come. Hopefully we'll have at least the 11 that I've paid for and then each of us won't have to pay more for the weekend!

Look tomorrow for an update on food volunteered and people paid! I'll do it in the afternoon after I check the mail.

sew cornie 04-20-2011 08:51 PM

Feathers, I think your Bingo game sounds fun. And I love word games too.

Karen, good idea to bring 3 FQs each. That will provide plenty for games or swaps. Thanks again for getting all of this organized! You're awesome!

You guys should play strip poker! Sooo much fun!

This past summer one of the guilds I belong to played a game of strip poker. It was loads of fun and we all had a good laugh. Of course I lost my shirt but then again I've never been good at this sort of thing. ^^ It was still fun though.

RULES FOR QUILTERS STRIP POKER
Each table should have 9 or 10 players but absolutely no more then 10
Each player should have 12 charm strips 2.5" x 45" (or width of fabric)
Be sure the JOKERS are taken OUT of the deck. Shuffle the cards thoroughly!
To begin, each player must ante one strip into the pot
The dealer gives each player a card (face up), if the card is a diamond, club or spade, the player must put one of their strips into the pot, but if the card is a heart, the player gets to take two strips out of the pot. If ther are no more strips in the pot, the player who gets a heard loses the opportunity to take strips out of the pot, however, the player who gets a diamond, club or spade must put a strip into the pot.
Repeat above step until all the players have five cards. The winner of the pot is the player who has the most duplicates (5's or kings or 9's, etc) of the highest card value (Ace is high, 2 is low). NO OTHER standard poker hands are valid. If two or more players have the same duplicates, the face value of the next highest card in the hands determines the winner. For example K-K-Q beats K-K-J because the Q is higher then the J.

ORDER OF WINNING HANDS FROM LOWEST TO HIGHEST
Two of a kind
Two sets of two of a kind
Three of a kind
Four of a kind

I've only played scrabble a couple times in my whole life but when I did, I enjoyed it. We have the game but we don't have anyone who plays it with us. DH's brother and his wife come over alot to play cards but not Scrabble.

I bought a computer Who Wants to be a Millionaire game a couple years ago thinking that would be a fun game but NO ONE will play it. Also have a computer game SCENE IT that I use to play with my grand nephews but haven't played it in a year. I think we aren't game players except for cards...I love games but the rest of the family only like cards.

Last night I dug out the Yahtzee and the Uno games. I'll thow those in the Bingo bag incase anyone wants to play.

I've played Pictionary a few times and like it, too.

Me three! It's the only game I can beat DH at with any consistency.

Any pinochle players out there??

I love pinochle...another game my DH doesn't like to play so I don't get to play much. I've played both singler and double deck.

Fidissimus 04-23-2011 02:11 PM

My folks always played pinochle but my sister and I never learned. It would be a fun game to know how to play. I used to play a lot of Gin Rummy with friends in high school but haven't played much since then.

Feathers 04-23-2011 03:55 PM

Hi Karen:
My sister just called and said she would love to join us at the beach so I am putting a check in the mail to you tonight on our way to church. You should have it by Monday. Sharon has wanted to learn to quilt forever and hopes that she'll be able to learn lots from all us old quilter folks. I'm thrilled that she's going. I think everyone will enjoy her alot.

KarenBarnes 04-23-2011 08:30 PM

Feathers, who are you calling old?

Glad to have Sharon join the group. We'll look forward to meeting her!

I'm thinking there will be a few different games going at one time or another. It sounds like fun to me!

Karen, I wasn't calling any of us "OLD" except maybe my sister who is thinner than I but "older!" Did I ever telll you guys I lie sometime?

By "OLD" I was referring to our individual time/experience with quilting not our age. I'll be 65 on June 11th and just got my medicare card! I'm probably older than most if not all of you.

KarenBarnes 04-24-2011 01:25 PM

:) I knew that was what you were referring to, I just thought I'd give you a hard time. I actually turn 50 this year so I'm feeling a little bit of that age stuff! It sounds like we need to celebrate your birthday as well as Alice's! I'm bringing the cake!!

I knew you were teasing!

reeskylr 04-24-2011 05:24 PM

At the moment, I'm crossing my fingers that I may be able to join folks for this. :)

KarenBarnes 04-25-2011 10:27 AM

Okay, fellow quilters! This is the last week to confirm that you are coming! My cut off to add new people is May 1! If you already have your money in, thank you! If you don't have it in, please PM me and let me know what your plan is. I know a few have said that a check is in the mail but haven't received any more. I'll check the mail later today and do an update then. If other quilters want to join us there is still plenty of room! There are 8 twin beds as well as larger beds so there is plenty of room!

KarenBarnes 04-25-2011 04:54 PM

I have received payment from mistiliz! We have 7! Looks like there's going to be lots of room!

sew cornie 04-25-2011 09:37 PM

Thanks, Karen, for keeping us updated. I hope we end up with more than 7. It's a big house with lots of room . . . .

Wine Woman 04-26-2011 05:50 AM

Thanks Karen for all your updates. I'll be bringing food too. I've been waiting to see where I can fill in. Wine is always a given but don't want all to feel like thats all I do and bring!! Ya know what I mean??

2 Doods 04-26-2011 02:18 PM

Yes, Karen!
THANK YOU for organizing our get-away. I'm waiting to see what food too. Doesn't sound like anyone will go hungry!

cbridges22 04-26-2011 05:16 PM

Do we need to give you more money?

KarenBarnes 04-26-2011 05:19 PM

I just received a check for Sharon (Feather's sister) so we are now at 9. Two more and I know that there are at least 2 or 3 who have said checks are in the mail. That will keep the price at or below what you sent me! Yay!

I'm getting really excited about this retreat!

For those who are waiting to see what food is being brought, I think if you just make a suggestion there will be those who will agree with your suggestion! If we all bring something we could have some overlap. Personally, CobaltJars and I are going to a restaurant Friday morning. She has a breakfast joint that she loves and we're going to check it out! Come and join us!

2 Doods 04-26-2011 08:24 PM

I'll join you two for breakfast Friday! How about if I bring a veggie/dip tray? And I have a great salad that can sit. It would be good to snack or have with a meal- it has marinated artichokes, rice-a-roni and I don't know what all. I got the recipe years ago from my "other mother". (A teacher that worked at my dad's school-she is a fabulous cook).
