When I started again, I was sort of afraid to hand quilt for fear I had forgotten and was afraid I would ruin the quilt. It just sat for many years. I picked it back up about a year ago, determined to finish it, but I also had 2 other quilts (with deadlines) going. Anyway it is finished!!
I know EXACTLY what you mean about being embarrassed about taking so long. I am in the same stage. Started a quilt for my grandson & new bride over 20 yrs ago. Had all but about 2 ft. across the pillow section finished, then like you, life forced me to take some detours & had to put the quilting on hold. In the mean time they divorced, he re-married, I moved & now at 77 yrs old, I'm finally in a place to be able to put my frame back up again.
My grand dgtrs just got it put back up for me, so will see if my arthritis will agree to me quilting again. Hope to be able to start again on it tomorrow. Here are some pics of it
