What a wonderful story, and what a treasure to be able to put on your bed and use, even if it didn't get completed for 50 years - you now have a wonderful heirloom quilt to remember your grandmother by.

This is fabulous. A Jacobs Ladder? You did a great service to the quilt by finishing it and to your aunt who lives in your heart.

Gayeann, please get those tops out of your closet and finish them! I know you will be blessed with enjoying them and her memories after you have completed them....just like I did!! You'll truly have some "vintage" quilts. I love mine!! With the 80/20 batting I quilted it with, it made it light and cuddly and very washable......not like the heavy cotton batting that my aunt and grandmother would have used 50 years ago!! Another plus!!! My mom told me that she and my grandmother would go to the cotton gin yard and pick up the scraps of cotton from the ground and "card them" to use them for batting. Another one of the necessities of being poor and yet needing the utility quilts for warmth!! We just don't know how spoiled we are!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your story and the quilt. It is inspiring. I don't have anything like that yet, but know there will be some UFOs and tops coming from my Mom at some point.

That is Jacob's Ladder and traditionally the blocks are set together without sashing. I made one without sashing for my daughter and she loves it. Your quilt is lovely and I'm glad you were able to remake it to your liking. Thanks for sharing!

Oh, those blocks are so nice! They look much more vintage than just 50 years... Lucky you.

The fabrics probably are older than 50 yrs....I've had this quilt for 53, but I can remember some of those fabrics in my grandmother's clothes and my mom's clothes while I was growing up...before becoming a bride at the age of 19!!! I'm sure some of them are 60 plus years.
