As Lesley mentioned, you do need to check what the lace is made of as some synthetics won't take the dye - cotton works better.

Patti - what do you mean PHFFFFTTTTTT? Don't you believe me?

Oh O.K., DH tells me it's a memory issue.

    oh yeah...thanks for the reminder!
All of my laces are NOT cotton! I have some of that prepackaged stuff that I am fairly sure is not.
Oh well, it's a great idea, and as much as I have, bc I inherited...there is probably some in there.

    Deecee and mouse,

I just finished dyeing my lace and used Rit dye. The package said to use salt to set the dye if the fabric was cotton and to use vinegar on synthetic . I'm not too sure I like the result but I'm darn sure I will use this $40.00 worth of lace!

Me too. I love seeing the different variations people are using.

I saw that some are doing a combination of embroidery floss colors and have decided to do the same on mine. Love the variety here. :-D

Well I am glad you had a go at it - please show us a pic - did you use different colours for a multi coloured look, or all one colour?

Ok ladies, here is the dyed lace and the first piece of the border pinned in place.

It's a little more muted than I wanted, but it blends well with my colors and I can't change it.

I started by dying the entire length yellow then tried to tie-die (the old way with scrunching up and using rubber bands) in sections. Didn't like the solidness of color so started splattering dye on in various places and I like this better as it's more random.

Please be honest--what do you think?

    I like the colours Rox.

My personal opinion - I would add more. I would use the same colours for a shorter time (or dilute or even mix them for new muted colours) between some of the colour patches to sort of transition between colours.

But that's just me - I can't help playing with this type of thing. I am a compulsive fiddler with any sort of crafty stuff and I have trouble stopping when enough is enough.

Or, if you aren't into mucking about, just ignore me - it's good to go as is.

This is beautiful! What is the quilt pattern? Is it applique or paper piecing?
