Anyone ever feel like abandoning a project

Looking at my stash recently I wondered if I was drunk when I bought some of it. I found several half finished things, an ugly burgundy fabric made into an applique cat block approximately 20 x 20, denim pieces cut out of jeans which I will in the future make into a couple of quilts for kids, ugly chicken fabric I once thought was cute. I'll put that on the back of something to practice my quilting. At least half of what we do today we probably wouldn't consider doing 10 years from now. Bought a new Fons and Porter quilting mag today and saw what is popular at this moment in quilting. Drab muted colors, dull brown combined with beautiful turquoise, pale, pale colors that look like the dyes washed out. Not my cup of tea. I much prefer your purples. Finish it if you can. If you can't stomach it, put it away along with the thread and the rest of the blocks you cut so every thing is together and sometime in the future you may get it out and decide it's exactly the thing you want to do. How about appliqueing (sp) flowers in coordinating colors with green vines on top of the squares. That could be awesome! I've repurposed many pieces of fabric. Just a few meandering thoughts.

You know purple is my favorite colour in the whole wide world too, which is why this is such a dissappointment for me. (I have 2 purple jackets, at least a half dozen purple camisoles, purple sweaters, purple make-up, purple school bag, my glasses are purple...lol) I raided my mothers' (dozens of) bins picking out all the purples I liked... and now I don't like the outcome so much. I will give it another shot, though. It's not like it's gonna take a long time to stitch the rest together, it's 144 squares.

It's hard to see the beauty in your quilt until its finished. It always amazes me how the colors find their own unique pattern and then add a applique border or unique pieced border and you will love it. If not it will still be snuggling worthy.

I would finish sewing the blocks together, put a deep golden colour narrow border and then a wider purple border & finish it as a table center piece. The gold & purple look very "regal" and warm together. JMHO

Oh my gosh, I'm going through the same thing right now. I have been working on this quilt nearly every night for two weeks now and I'm so sick of it. It's these pretty flower pot blocks that I arranged in different directions. I made a chain pattern in the background with four patches, and the color I chose for my light value is just too light. It's definitely salvageable, but I'm just to sick of looking at the darn thing to start ripping and changing colors around. I'm going to throw it in a box and forget about it for a while! Maybe I'll finish it, maybe I won't...all I know right now is I'm done with it for the time being! Lol*
Your project doesn't look bad! Maybe set it aside for a while and come back to it. Sometimes you just need to walk away. I think "the universe" or whatever gives you little signs it's time for a break...you know, those times when your thread breaks three times in a row, or your needle, or you keep having to rip and re-sew. Take a breather maybe, work on something you feel proud and confident about, then come back to your purple project with a fresh perspective.

I love the purples. It looks very regal with all your beautiful fabrics. I can see it in my head too and it looks lovely finished! LOL! Plus, it looks like it would feel so nice. If you don't like it when you're finished, you can send it to me!
