I like number 3 the best now that you showed that pic.
I had done this with a same pattern with a quilt I am working on for a lady my daughters work with. Everything was going great until I started sewing the blocks together and things didn't wanna match up. Not sure what I did wrong, but I got it worked out the best way I could and it worked just fine.
