I was wondering the same thing. I have lots of scraps my Mom saved from making us kids clothes thru the years. I'm always keeping my eye out for scrappy quilt patterns. This pattern would be wonderful to use them for. If you kno the pattern name, could you please share it with us? TIA!

CowGirl ... I printed off the picture of it. If you break it down, you'll discover there are 3 different blocks you make and then put them together. Just need one main fabric (white) then LOTS of scraps!!!

I will try to answer all the questions in one post.
THE QUILTING:
btiny36 is correct - the boards go on the back of the machine in place of a paper pantograph.
The size of the boards varies according to the pattern. I believe most are 24" long and you must buy 3-5 of them and connect them together.
There are also square boards for doing individual block designs and they can be done from the back or the front of the machine if you have The Topper attachment or the Circle Lord UpFront attachment.
As you guessed, the width and length of the pattern is pre-determined by the board and cannot be changed.
THE QUILT PATTERN
I did not make the quilt top and don't know the name of the pattern or where it came from. I will try to find out from the customer, but I think it was made several years ago by her mother so we may not be able to track down the name of the pattern.

Thanks Circle Square.

Yowza! That's quite an investment for each pattern if you have to buy 3 boards. I assume that it's a lot easier for the LA-er than a paper pantograph for that price.

As for the pattern, as QuiltE said above, there are only 3 larger blocks that make up the quilt.

One is made up of 4 HST blocks, and the other 2 configurations are made up of smaller 4 patch blocks (although the method of construction can vary). You can see them highlighted below.

It's all in the layout.

And the excellent value work the maker of the quilt did in choosing her brights. They work together as one, but provide all kinds of pattern and texture interest throughout the entire quilt. Just because white is used as the contrast doesn't mean that any other fabric can just be used randomly. Well, it can. But the result wouldn't be nearly as impressive.

Thanks MTS ... I always love when you drop by with your technology tricks!

And yes, as you break it down, it's really just two blocks, then use them for three larger ones ... then do the layout!

Would be a perfect leader/ender project for those that use that technique!

I toss scraps so that wouldn't work for me. Yeah, I know. Blasphemous. Add it to my list.

Although I would probably strip piece the 16 patch blocks instead of making a bunch of 4 patches and joining them.

Lazy and blasphemous. What a combo. ;-)
