Disappointed in whole-cloth quilt...

I think it is gorgeous. Another batting might have made more of an impression but the handquilting is beautiful. Why not make one of the pretty bedrunners to go at foot of bed and maybe you will like it better. You could change it with the seasons. They need a neutral background and the wholecloth would be perfect.

What a beautiful quilt; and by HAND!
I've found that I usually like a little contrast to my quilting thread also. I quilt with my domestic machine, but the results can be similar if the thread matches too closely; the design just disappears into the quilt. But even when it does, it gives me pleasure to run my hands over the top and "feel" the design. It's such a tactile experience to feel the relief the quilting creates on the surface.

I think it's gorgeous--I've been admiring your progress for months. I've had this happen to me with a whole cloth wallhanging. I think I used the wrong kind of batting, because when it was done it looked like a blob. Maybe you could tea dye it?

You have done an amazing job with it!
Did you do a small sample piece first? I agree with the poster who suggested coloring it with crayons... try it on your tester
My mom made nearly all of my clothes as a baby/child. She started a postage stamp irish chain, a quintuple? anyway. It was originally to be a baby quilt, she finished it when I was in my 20's and it ended up being queen size. Machine pieced, and hand quilted. I loved it. The backing was a light solid periwinkle. I had it on my bed a long time, then I flipped it over. She was kind of offended, didn't I like it? I said, yes, I love it, but this side showcases your quilting & I like seeing that, too. You couldn't see the quilting on the front, the pattern took over. I don't know if I placated her or not, she never said. the quilting thread was lighter than the periwinkle.
