Well it isn't appliqued. The butterflies are machine embroidered. And for blocks close to the edge, I hooped the stabilizer and used basting spray to hold the quilt down to be embroidered.

How does the back of the quilt look if you are embroidering after the quilt top is complete?

What a precious, bright, and cheerful quilt this is. Like the idea of embroidering the butterflies after it was done. This looks wonderful. Great job. Thank you for sharing.

No, I embroidered the butterflies after the TOP was sewn together. When you use am embroidery machine, you either hoop the fabric or you hoop the stabilizer ( sometimes both together). I hooped the stabilizer and spray basted the completed quilt top to the stabilizer.
