Thanks! I plan to take twelve to sixteen star blocks home with me next summer and sash them with my mother. It should be a blast sitting down to do that with her. The only question I have now is what color of sashing and border to use on a quilt of such differing blocks? Knowing me they're liable to get even more varied as I go along.

Your stars are looking awesome Steve  , I think that they will work great all together in one quilt, that will be a super yummy quilt. For your sashings, purple goes with everything, the fact that it happens to be my favourite colour has nothing to do with my suggestion

I hadn't thought about purple ShellyQ, I bet it would work if a dark purple.

I've actually got a purple quilt in the planning, "Leonardo by Jinny Beyer". She did her quilt in red, but I've been collecting up the purples for the project. I wish I could convey just how hard it is to collect up that many values of dark purples.

Oh I know Steve, being a fan of that particular colour. It seems to be available in fits and starts, so I tend to grab some whenever they become available. I'll be really looking forward to seeing that quilt, yummy :P

Steve: Info only...and a recommendation endorsement for New Home:

I have a New Home 8000 Memory Craft machine that is about 18 years old that sews through layers like a hot knife through butter...yesterday when I was looking at e-bay I saw a machine JUST EXACTLY like mine for only $299.00.........I think i paid almost 3 grand for mine 18 years ago!

    Hi Quilters:
The 8 pointed star is so pretty. I've had 2 classes on doing this block...one with the pattern piecing like Steve's and the other one using all HALF SQUARE TRIANGLES except in the 4 corners and you use a full square for the corners.

    For a 15 inch Block:
Cut 4 1/ 2 inch strips in 3 colors the Width Of Fabric (WOF) (my 3 colors were: Background-WHITE, with RED and GREEN)
Cut each of these 3 strips into 4 1/2 inch squares

    To make triangles:
Putting right sides together of red/green; green/white (white being the background on mine) mark diagonal lines then sew a scant 1/4 inch on either side of the marked line then cut on the marked line. Press open and you have the units for the block.

Now, picture a block with 4 blocks across and 4 blocks down. The placement of your blocks will be as follows:

Row 1: Solid WHITE background square
White/Red HALF SQUARE triangle with the red on the bottom right
White/Green HST with white top left,Red bottom right
    Solid White background square

Row 2: White/Green HST with White part on bottom Left,Green Top Right
Green/Red HST Green bottom left, Red top Right
Green Red HST RED Top LEFT, Green BOTTOM Right
Red/WHite HST, Red TOP Left, White Bottom Right

Row 3. White/RED HST-White top left, Red Bottom Right
Red/Green HST-Red Top Left, Green, bottom right
Red/GReen HST-Red Bottom Left, Green Top Right
Green/White-HSTGreen Bottom Left, Red Top Right

    Row 4. White background Square
Green/White HSQ-Green Top Left, White bottom right
White/Red HST - White bottom Left, Red top Right
    White background square.

Sew each of the 4 squares together in each row.

Sew Row one to Row 2,
Sew Row 2 to Row 3
Sew Row 3 to Row 4.

Block is complete and usually all the little points fit together perfectly and are "pointy."

For some reason I can't locate my Christmas Red/White/Green block but do have the 4th of July block so you can still see how it's done. This block, to me, was easier than the pattern Steve used???? It's a quick block and is very pretty. It is also the picture on my AVATAR under my name on the quilt board.

Nice Feathers, the pattern looks similar (in method) to those I've been doing. It's an interesting way to deal with bias, no? In truth it leaves me in awe of the 'sewing the diamonds method'.

I really like the block in your avatar, it really has a stained glass appearance to it. Every time I see it I want to stop my current project and start on the stained glass idea that has been rolling around in my head.
