I would continue your pattern with the original fabric on the sides. Add to the sides only.

It's gorgeous, and no one would ever think it was your first. I can't wait to see the finished product!!

First of all, you did a great job!
Now...
I have seen quilts where the side borders are different than the length borders, and they look nice.
You may also consider shortening the length (on each end) and adding a wide border all around. If you do this, the log cabin design is on the top (horizontal) of the bed only. Expanding on this thought, after shortening, you could have log cabins in the corners as part of the borders.
Good luck, and let us see what you decide.

Yes, you can do that. Your quilt, your rules.
Audition the borders you want (pin them in place), step back and take a look.
Walk away. Go shopping. Go to work. When you return take another look.
No rush. Think about it until you're happy.

Quilt looks beautiful.
really good advice that is what I always do.

You can definitely do it with shorter borders on the top and bottom. Or no border on the top at all and put them on the bottom. The top of the quilt is usually not seen that much because it is either under the pillows or wrapped over the pillows and it doesn't show
It is a gorgeous quilt and I'm glad you got brave enough to cut the beautiful fabrics.

If this is your first quilt, please go to the head of the class, because it is so beautiful, no one would guess it is a first timer. No suggestions on how to finish, except do what feels right to YOU. The wonderful thing about quilting is, you can always do what you want, and it may become the next trend in quilting. Enjoy this lovely work of art.
