Find out what you can afford first. There are quite a few sewing machines that are good and practical for a biginner. I started out with a singer from walmart that my DH bought me for xmas one year, and 4 years later he bought me a janome. I knew what I wanted by that time and was able to really get what I wanted in a machine. Still not sure if we could afford it or not but DH gave me no choice. :D Hope this helped. ps plus now I have 2 working sewing machine and I can do 2 things at once. did not realize how nice that is.

walmart has a brother SQ9000 machine that comes with a 1/4" foot and a walking foot everything you could want under $300. Here is a website that will tell you everything about the machine.

You are going to be a terrific, dedicated quilter. You worked hard on that quilt and completed something that is so nice. Keep it up.
