I have a hand quilting book that said if your quilt pieces are squares or straight rectangles, then any quilting in swirls (like stipples) will bring out the colors, and if your quilt is rounded, like applique, then cross hatching will bring out the applique work. I think stipple would be beautiful with maybe cable quilting on the borders. And, I love the yellow of the inner border. I would use that color for the backing and a very slim binding, too. I would even get wild, and use bright yellow quilting thread on the black border! It would really pop out at everyone, especially if it is for a child. Well, I hope I helped, I have gotten into using more than one or two colors with my quilting, lately.
What great suggestions. I am new at the quilting process and appreciate the ideas.

I am thinking for time sake, I may just pillowcase this one and turn it inside out, then tie it.

When I make another, and have the funds, I would like to have it done using your ideas.

Do you quilt for others?

Thanks again for your ideas

I do, but since I handquilt I usually make baby quilts for anyone in town who is having a baby. The quilt you made would take me about 3-4 months to hand quilt!! I wouldn't be able to get on this site or talk on the phone to get it done!! But your quilt gave me a great idea for using my batiks and making a smaller version for baby quilts! I am going to buy a digital camera as soon as I have extra money (ha, ha) so I can send pictures of what I have done.
