    Not sure what I'm doing!

I found some fabric that I really like, it's called Farmers Market by Brannock and Pate for Moda. I couldn't find a pattern I liked, so I looked in my 501 quilt block book and piced a block pattern, White Hemstitch, and proceeded to put something together. My goal is to make a lap size quilt to hang in the bedroom. My colors are black, gold and olive green, so these colors worked for me.

I have moved things around, cut different fabrics and this is what I've come up with so far. On my computer the gold looks like beige, but is actually gold that matches cherry pattern fabric in the center of the stars. The light colored fabric looks like white, but is actually a dark beige. I haven't ever done anything like this before as I've been quilting only about 8 months and I am still learing about contrast, color, etc. I plan on using the black as the border with either a solid gold or cherry colored framing border.

The first four blocks are the complete. Can I get some input? Is there enought contrast? not enough? need more color?

Thanks, I feel totally lost and don't want to give up!

I forgot.... These are 12 inch blocks, would this have looked better smaller?

I like it so far. Remember to watch your points when piecing the blocks so that they match up. I like the block a lot! I think you are doing a great job laying it out.

Are you going to put anymore little black squares like the one that is on the second row..if not I would take that one out..or put one in each of the blocks like the one that it's in...the rest looks lovely...

    I agree with Sak658.

But, I like the secondary pattern you get if you put the same fabrics together at this spot like you have with the darks.

Beautiful colors! Looking good so far. Keep going.

From the computer picture, there does look to be enough contrast but in person, it might be subtle. It does look lovely from what I can see. The big question is: Do you like it ? Learn to follow your feelings about design, color, contrast. If you don't like it, then you don't like it. No problem, it's your quilt and you don't have to keep sewing it as it is. You change what you want to change, it's yours to play with. Good Luck with whatever you do !!

I agree with SAK658. The little black squares add to the interest of the quilt.

I really like it too-you might consider a small red border to bring out that color more! Keep going on it cause it changes more as you add to it!!
