I'd for sure make two - especially since they are different fabrics

If you can't do the hand work, then opt for the Amish...

if you decide to machine quilt, then 'in the ditch' would work fine...

MOO-YMMV

These are both beautiful and it would be great to have two family heirlooms. Add me to the two quilts and hand quilting group. If you're new to hand quilting you could do a simple diagonal design. I don't find hand quilting particularly difficult, just time consuming. But well worth the effort for these precious quilts.

I would do 2 quilts. I would also hand quilt if the fabric is in good condition.

The fabric on both seems to be in very good condition other than the few tea stains on some of the flannel pieces. Just a reminder as to why I too must be a tea lover. LOL. I am only a tea drinker as is my Mom and her Mom. No coffee here. I could probably stitch in the ditch. Never thought about doing that. I think I am going to take them to the quilt shop up North of me for some advice. She is a super lady and would not steer me wrong. She is a sister to one of our very good and dear friends. Thanks for all the input. You all have my wheels turning now. My Mom I think started sewing them together around two of the edges so I best get to ripping....... carefully of cours......

They are Beautiful. I would make two with muslin for the backing and I would hand quilt them.

I am going to make two quilts. I am going to machine quilt the flannel one on my own probably in the ditch. I think I am going to send out the cotton top which is my favorite to be hand quilted. It will take awhile though. Money is tight what with Dale still not back to work. Ugh.

You could handquilt the quilt yourself. I'm not joking. I learned how to do that by going to the Friends of the Library sessions where they hand quilt to raise money for the library.......and they don't charge much to do it. Some Senior Citizen's groups also hand quilt. I have friends who set up lap looms and hand quilt while they watch television in the evenings.

Wow, what great pieces of history you have there! Your grandmother is a wonderfully talented lady and I"m jealous that you have such great things around!

My two cents is to make two quilts and hand quilt them...but you've already made your decision...

Good luck and make sure to post pictures when they're done!

That sounds like a great idea. Happy stitching. Who knows perhaps you'll enjoy quilting the first one so much you'll go ahead and quilt the other. :)
