Paula you out did yourself! that is perfect for the center. I was so stumped as what would work on that round but you did it marvelously! oh dear now to follow up on that one! yikes!!!

Dragonfly Nana 08-18-2013 03:07 PM

Thanks all. I love Kelly's idea of enter the completed project in the fair. I can only imagine how beautiful it will be when she is done quilting it - and she can hide any of our little oops too.

Here's Melinda's center with my round. I've lost 1/2" total somehow - hopefully someone can find a way to work an extra 1/4" to each side of their border?

Dragonfly Nana 08-18-2013 04:19 PM

Ooohhh Kelly I like it!
I am sure Jan can work in an extra 1/2" in her round - or I will.

jaba 08-18-2013 05:13 PM

I'll see what I can do, are you mailing it to me tomorrow Kelly? I'm ready for it.

I've got it going 3-day priority so it should be there no later than Friday I bet.

jaba 08-19-2013 12:04 PM

I'll be watching for it. Thanks

Dragonfly Nana 08-19-2013 02:10 PM

I sent Kelly's out Priority today too - cheaper than ground and free tracking! Brat - you should see it by week's end.

Elisabrat 08-19-2013 06:04 PM

oh goody then I can start sweating! both of you have done really nice work on those quilts would never know someone else had taken a hand to them.. which is amazing.. now they will come to me.. gulp. did I say gulp???

jaba 08-19-2013 06:30 PM

Kelly yours is going to get done way to fast, maybe brat and I have to keep it here for awhile :):D Who's got mine??

Dragonfly Nana 08-19-2013 06:57 PM

Jaba yours is with Lestrong601 at the moment.

jaba 08-19-2013 07:02 PM

Thanks Paula, was to lazy to go downstairs and look. Been canning apple pie filling all day, feet hurt and think everything else does too! My bed is calling.....

Nexxus831 08-19-2013 07:46 PM

Jaba, mom has both Paula's and yours .... I have Brat's and sending mom's to kelly tomorrow. I already know what I am doing with Brat's. What do you all think of piano keys and then something special in the corners like maybe a 12 patch or something. The colors I would use are the creams, reds and blues you have in the top. I would use more of the creams and reds as there is a lot of blues on the border mom put on. What do you think?

jaba 08-20-2013 05:50 AM

Do you have a pic? don't think I've seen your Mom's border on it. Love to see the pictures

Jaba, I thought I had posted a picture but I guess that I didn't. So here is the borders around it.

jaba 08-20-2013 06:22 PM

I must have misunderstood you, I've seen this one, I thought you meant your Mom had put a border on brat's and I hadn't seen it. It's got to be called a Round Robin for a reason, I feel like I'm going round and round. Think the garden and all the stuff that needs done from day to day and then the canning and freezing....guess my head is going round and round. Sorry for the error

Nexxus831 08-20-2013 08:31 PM

oh Jaba it's ok I didn't mind posting again and honestly we are in so many different swaps its hard to keep track of what is what on some days.
Speaking of Brat's top, what do you think about piano keys in predominantly reds and tans with just a few blues in there. I know my border is supposed to be 6.5" so I was thinking of making them either 1/2" or 1" finished keys. Then I just need to think of some corner stones of some type. I pulled 20 different fabrics tonight that can work....hmmmm sometimes I don't trust my own judgement. Suggestions??

Dragonfly Nana 08-21-2013 03:28 AM

for the corners - what about doing what she did in the corners of her center star? I think they call that a "Puss in the Corner"

jaba 08-21-2013 05:23 AM

Had to go back and find the pic of Brat's, think piano keys would look great. If you use the same corner stones as Brat did in the middle to tie it all together then I think I would make the "keys" the same width as the small squares in each corner of them. Does that make sense?

Dragonfly Nana 08-21-2013 11:43 AM

Ha Ha - Jaba and I had the same thought!

Nexxus831 08-21-2013 01:45 PM

Ok ladies I can do that and your right it would look wonderful. So would I need the exact same fabric as she used on the center blocks? Or just try to match it as much as I can? Jaba, your saying make the "keys" the same width as the small pieces of blocks that are in the "cornerstones" Did I interrupt that correctly? Sorry don't mean to ask for so much help but I like getting other people's opinion on things. Thank you all so much

Dragonfly Nana 08-21-2013 01:59 PM

I don't think you have to use the "exact same fabric" because your corner blocks will echo part of the design from the center and that will help to tie it together.
I took what Jaba said about size the same way you did - the piano keys part should be the same width as the "corner stones" from your corner block.

jaba 08-21-2013 04:41 PM

Exactly! example:If those small ones measure 2"x 2", then I would make those piano keys to measure 2" wide also and 6 1/2" long if that's what your border is. I think all you need to do is match one or two of the blues in the original fabric, there are about 4. then I'd add a white or blue or both. Kind of hard when it's not in front of me....audition it with your fabric and see what it looks like, think you'll know real quick.

Dragonfly Nana 08-21-2013 05:50 PM

Jaba - when I did the math for a 6.5" border - to keep the look the same as the center's corner - the border's corner blocks centers would need to be 3.5" (finished) which would make the side strips and corner stones as well as the piano key strips all 1.5" (finished) - that would be some small piano keys.

But how cool would they look if the piano keys were all reds and creams and then make the corner blocks with blue centers and cornerstones with creams side strips?

jaba 08-21-2013 06:07 PM

Yup, I just said the blue and whites thinking it would be in the corners, Melinda already said she was going mostly red and white because of so much blue already in the center.

Nexxus831 08-21-2013 08:00 PM

ok I must be super confused. Is it supposed to be 6.5" finished or 6" finished. I thought it was 6" finished. Please let me know if I am correct on this please

Nexxus you had a 6.5 inch row. attached it becomes 6.25 on each side. when the next row is attached by the next person your row becomes 6' finished. make sense? and please NO WHITE only cream my man is a piglet. I would be washing that quilt from here to the end of time. I am excited to see what your doing. Did your mothers row get posted? oh yes it did she put a star in her corner right?

Nexxus831 08-22-2013 11:26 AM

ok got it. That is what I thought but for a second I doubted myself. I figured you didn't want white. I can't have white either or cream or tan. We are all messy creatures in our house. Black is a wonderful shade for us. My daughter yells at me when I call it a color because it isn't a color it is a shade. <insert eyeroll> Anyone care to take a hormonal 15yo girl.

They are all beautiful.

TheMamaHauser 08-23-2013 07:34 AM

Alright ladies - I'm still feeling a little confused about the final ruling on Lana's center. Are we skipping rounds or using the same size borders or what? And what size should I be doing for this round (#2 on hers)?

jaba 08-23-2013 08:48 AM

No skipped rounds, same size borders so your round is 6 1/2" unfinished.

Dragonfly Nana 08-23-2013 04:22 PM

Right on the money Jaba.

jaba 08-23-2013 04:27 PM

Didn't mean to step on your toes, thought maybe you were working or busy and figured Kelly wanted to start her planning. Went back and looked "stuff" up to make sure I thought I was right. Thank heavens....Got one center in the mail today from Kelly

Dragonfly Nana 08-23-2013 04:46 PM

My toes are not hurt - this is a group event! Anyone who can answer a question - go for it.
And you are right, I work 8-5, M-F but I do check the board every morning and evening.

Dragonfly Nana 08-23-2013 05:30 PM

A quick check in please. This is how I see the location of each top. Please confirm or correct your status.

You've got my info right - I got Lana's center yesterday and I'm constructing a plan.

Elisabrat 08-23-2013 06:35 PM

I received Kellys red/white center from you yesterday Paula :) I might be a few days getting to it two more little projects I have to kill before I go into round robin mode. I have two of Kellys actually as we are both in two round robins together so lucky me, better get whipping things up right away or soon there will be a pile a mile high here!

jaba 08-24-2013 01:59 PM

All of you, I need help. Last border is measuring short, so in order for it to be back on track mine has to be 5 1/2" unfinished. I have tried 5 different borders today and none of them work out on the length. Here are 2 ideas but then there will be a small fill in strip on each corner or I can do the 3 strip and make it the right size. I think the 3 strip may be the better option and I hope the colors show good because it blends with the blues and turquoise in the original block. Just trying the break up some of the yellow and black and green. These are the darker shades of each one. Have any alternative for me????
