I would love to work on your bookcase quilt. Wouldn't want one myself but it would be your theme so that would work for me :) that is more like a row robin??? maybe?? I do love the colors from the theme say jewels or carmel? that would be easy for anyone to follow along.. still like the colors of the leaves idea.. ah heck I love all the ideas so surprise us come Jan. Jan is a good time to start something new.. a fresh start on quilting .. and it gives us time to finish a swap so that it could be quilted for Christmas. wouldn't it be nice to get something going like that? I love having finished gifts in time. And quilts take time.. you would be wonderful to do this for us, set it up and well I am so ready. I really love these round robins and blame it totally on dragonfly. she is the one. its her fault and I am sticking with that :)

Dragonfly Nana 10-28-2013 02:38 PM

OH NO Ms Brat...I am not taking the blame for starting this one - it goes to MamaHouser.

I love her idea of "interpreting" themes too- using caramel colored fabric in block to represent the statement "I love salted caramel"

TheMamaHauser 10-28-2013 05:15 PM

Let me spend some time coming up with the special guidelines for this and then I'll get the request over to Patrice by Thanksgiving at the latest.

Elisabrat 10-28-2013 06:14 PM

I worked on the butterfly batik's round today. I decided on a pattern and got one side DONE! so its just three sides to go then I can move it forward. I decided on things rather quickly. I am going lighter and purples and well oranges and pinks and well color its sounding like a hot mess isn't it/ trust me its not :) I had fun and love the fabrics.. this is a fun round all in all :) Phew!

kwiltkrazy 10-29-2013 09:19 AM

Oh My gosh ladies you are really making those centers bloom. Can't wait to see more.

frenchfryqueen 10-31-2013 11:30 AM

Alright. I'm tempted. Can you guys give me a ballpark on how much postage costs for the whole thing?

Now my brain is running wild with ideas.. :)

Dragonfly Nana 10-31-2013 03:05 PM

FFQ - I spend about $30.00 each Round Robin I do. I ship using the flat rate envelopes so it may be cheaper if you ship at the parcel rate.
Anytime I have tried the parcel rate I get it wrong so flat rate is just easier for me and it comes with a tracking number and $50.00 of insurance.

TheMamaHauser 10-31-2013 03:12 PM

I would guess about the same for shipping. I generally go flat rate because I can do the label at home (usps.com) and then I don't need to physically take the package anywhere - a med box is $11 or so and a large is maybe $15? Really, for me, the cost usually ends up being an issue of needing fabric. I've got a big stash but it doesn't always match up with what I'm envisioning so that usually means a trip to the store and who can go to the store and ONLY buy what you "need"?

Dragonfly Nana 10-31-2013 03:18 PM

LOL MH - I am right there with you. Love having an excuse to go the LQS.

Elisabrat 11-01-2013 04:23 AM

I am right there now.. Jabas quilt I own at least five pinks and three purples and not one works! she was kind enough to share a bit of her fabrics with me for her round and I have the white but might go with another color in her fabric that is totally different.. a pale gray/blue that is found in the leaves in the background. WHICH MEANS.. that dreaded trip to the fabric store.. sigh.. awful job.. someone has to do it. GIVE ME THOSE KEYS.. I am heading on out!!!

frenchfryqueen 11-01-2013 04:40 AM

$30 is not bad spread out over the course of a few months. You guys may have talked me into it! I don't think that I can match you guys on talent, but I would definitely try to make something great. :)

Dragonfly Nana 11-01-2013 01:48 PM

I am sure you would have a great time. We all worry that what we do will match the "talent" of the others. Trust me, these gals on the board accept all levels and just enjoy the adventure.

TheMamaHauser 11-01-2013 03:03 PM

I can't speak for everyone else, but I feel like many of us are "winging it" more often than not. I know that I am. I can't ever say that what I "see" happening and what actually happens match. It's often just a lucky coincidence that what I "thought" might work and what "actually" works are kind of similar. For Lana's center, it took me 3 tries to make it come out in a way that I was happy enough to pass on to the next person. And I think we've all kind of come to expect that some centers are easier to make a plan for than others - and we ask for ideas and suggestions. Often.

Dragonfly Nana 11-02-2013 05:13 AM

well said MH

Elisabrat 11-03-2013 03:11 AM

oh heck yes making a center is the EASY part. I always dread being good enough and will I embarrass myself if I send something on that is not great.. and oh my god! people are seeing your work from the backside too!! help!lol its a learning experience. If you can make an accurate block then you can do a round robin. lots of math is what I find measuring things and then oh darn I am off.. 1/2 an inch now what??? we get creative oh yes yes we do. I think these are fun and know that others will have fun in them too. My bugger is shorter time frame. six week turn around is more than enough time even in a busy life to do a round. but that is just me. 3 months is beyond unnecessary. you then just put it over there.. and forget about it. I know we are all busy but.. that is an awful lot of time for a round that takes from a few hours to a weekend to do. oh shut up brat.. your going to get whomped AGAIN. I am sure sick of being whomped should learn to shut up faster lol

the one with the natural light looks almost stained glass like doesn't it?

SandyinZ4 11-05-2013 07:26 AM

That is the first impression I got..."Stained Glass". Great job everyone!

Dragonfly Nana 11-05-2013 12:14 PM

Brat you did a wonderful job (as usual) I just love how it it turning out

deplaylady 11-05-2013 12:32 PM

Can't wait to watch these grow up and become quilts!

Dragonfly Nana 11-05-2013 03:03 PM

Something I just noticed: Brat, how did you end up with Lestrong's top before me? and now you are sending to Jaba.

MH is to send to Jaba - Jaba ships to me and I ship to you.
I still have Nexxus's top which I got from Jaba.

Elisabrat 11-05-2013 04:33 PM

oh heck I have no idea as it is I have to fix my round. one row upside down so another week probably before it rolls on.. guess this one we will just have to have you and Jaba decide who does the next round. Currently its at Jabas but I have to fix my round so it will come back here I will take it out and put it in correctly sigh.. and well then leave me out of who decides what.. just tell me what to do.. I must be confused I simply thought it went from me to Jan but that could be avoiding postage? I just know it came to me.. so I was flinging it on. HELP!

TheMamaHauser 11-05-2013 05:24 PM

I think that probably is on me - I got confused about what center went to whom... I'm sorry :( I was so happy to get it done that I mailed it to the first person I could think of and didn't really spend much time considering if I was mailing to the RIGHT person.

Dragonfly Nana 11-05-2013 06:16 PM

Ok so lets do a quick check in. Everyone tell me who's center (s) they have right now and which round you are putting on it.

jaba 11-05-2013 08:07 PM

I was wondering the same thing, I think MommaH sent to the wrong person because she should send to me. Think she was thinking of another RR group. Let me know what to do with Lana's work on it or not?

Dragonfly Nana 11-06-2013 04:26 AM

jaba - that is exactly what happened. No major problem though - do your round as normal and then send to me. When I am done I will ship it home to Lestrong601

jaba 11-06-2013 06:09 AM

Sounds perfect, when brat gets done, I'll do one and you get to finish it.

Elisabrat 11-06-2013 06:17 AM

Jan is going to return the center from lestrong to me to remove that row and sew it on correctly. I will then have a quilt center but just for a few days. Other than that I do not have any other centers here at my house. I try to work on them and send them on their way as fast as I can.. so I don't lose any.

Dragonfly Nana 11-06-2013 02:56 PM

Sounds good Brat. The next center you get will be the yellow and green/Nexxus from me as soon as I can get it done.

Took out your row and changed it for you brat as promised and I did mine. Just finished and took it to the post office . It's on the way Paula so you should get it mid week. Hope you like what I did Lana, a 6 color braid in gold, green, brown, blue, yellow and purple. Tried to get every color that was in the center.

Lestrong601 11-08-2013 04:16 PM

The top is turning out so nice. Can't wait together it back. Love the work all of you have done.

Lestrong601 11-08-2013 05:55 PM

That is to say can't wait to get it back.

solstice3 11-08-2013 06:16 PM

All are lovely starts. Love Jaba's fabric

Dragonfly Nana 11-08-2013 06:21 PM

Wow Jaba - that was fast! And lovely too
I think my round will need to be on a beige base - maybe with colorful butterflies as the corner stones.
What do you thing Lana?

Lestrong601 11-08-2013 06:31 PM

I agree Paula. Light tan and butterflies always welcome. My plans are to bind it in a dark to finish off the stained glass look.

Dragonfly Nana 11-08-2013 06:37 PM

Yeah - would you prefer 8 butterflies or just the 4 in the corners?

Dragonfly Nana 11-08-2013 06:40 PM

I was thinking of making some in the same style as these to keep with the stained glass effect:

but I could so applique if you prefer.

Elisabrat 11-08-2013 07:44 PM

one Jan Love your round! thank you for fixing mine. (she fixed it for me because I couldn't send it on.. and trust me its amish enough with my work without needing to be upside down too)

Sounds like you would like a darker round maybe with colorful butterflies lana.. your ending dark to keep with the stained glass so maybe dark with bright orange or that blue butterfly color? I love that block dragonfly wow that is a good one.. paper pieced?? never have seen that one.

Dragonfly Nana 11-08-2013 09:10 PM

no paper pieced for me (yuck!) It is a 12" block by Pam Bono - a favorite designer of mine. I will have to adapt it for size but if she likes it I can do it - maybe even some 1/2 butterflies too.

Lestrong601 11-08-2013 10:48 PM

I really love the butterflies. they stay with the effect that all of the ladies have added. I know whatever you do will be great. Go for it.

Elisabrat 11-09-2013 04:26 AM

dragonfly has a wonderful sense of color I think she will do it justice absolutely! its really come to life.. are you loving this round robin ladies?
