Nice piece of work - and without a pattern! I love it. You are inspirational! :)

ranger 03-24-2011 04:49 AM

Awesome quilt!
Pam,you do such lovely work...always a pleasure to see.

Zephyr 03-24-2011 04:58 AM

Nice job! If it was mine I think I would put a 3" border just to finish it off and tie it together.

nabobw 03-24-2011 05:01 AM

Beautiful

quiltaroni 03-24-2011 05:06 AM

I think such a special quilt might like an added touch of a special border.?

k3n 03-24-2011 05:07 AM

Absolutely stunning Pam! I do think it needs a border though, to give it room inside it's frame. How about just a plain one in that black on black to give you scope to get some of your fabulous quilting on there? Would look great in a coffee or old goldish thread...

SandraD 03-24-2011 05:07 AM

Unbelievable that you did that without a pattern! Outstanding! You could simplify the border and just do a solid rather than a 4 patch. Nice work!

Crafty Darlene 03-24-2011 05:25 AM

Wow! That is a beautiful quilt!

dinlauren 03-24-2011 05:35 AM

WOW!!! What a beauty....

piepatch 03-24-2011 05:36 AM

First of all, your quilt is beautiful ! I love the colors and it looks so well made ! You don't mention the depth of the mattress it is going on, but a 68" x 89" quilt on a 54" x 75" mattress will have a 7" drop on each side. If that is enough for you, then I wouldn't add a border. If you add the other rows, and it becomes 76" x97, it will have an 11" drop on each side, if I have my figures right. I like a generous drop on a quilt, but either way, your quilt is gorgeous !

Jates 03-24-2011 05:40 AM

Wow! That is gorgeous!!

grandma anna 03-24-2011 05:46 AM

That is so pretty you did an awesome job.

fidgety 03-24-2011 05:49 AM

that is a beautiful quilt.. if it hangs on the bed where you want it to it is done. I like miine to hang down enough to cover and box springs so I would make it bigger.

brightstar_202 03-24-2011 05:54 AM

WOW it too is beautiful ayou did a great job

IMHO I think your gorgeous creation should be a little larger, depending on the mattress and your daughter's future bed size. Right now the quilt will maybe just barely cover the sides of a 7"-thick double mattress. If your daughter has a mattress any thicker than 7 inches, buys a pillow top mattress set down the road, or goes into a queen set later, your quilt will be way too small and might be relegated to a cupboard.

Shirlrh 03-24-2011 05:59 AM

Wow! Its gorgeous...

I agree. I've loved seeing this one come together, it is just stunning!

pittsburgpam 03-24-2011 06:03 AM

Thank you everyone, you are all so generous and kind. I like the idea of a slim border and then a little larger one. That means I'm going to need more fabric since all I have in black is the JR strips.

I think I can handle doing that rather than a 4-patch border.

Grandma Peg 03-24-2011 06:18 AM

Is that ever a beautiful quilt!!!

bettysew 03-24-2011 06:40 AM

Gorgeous quilt.

Neena 03-24-2011 06:43 AM

This is gorgeous! a work of art!

mhansen6 03-24-2011 06:49 AM

That is absolutely beautiful quilt. I love the colors. I sorry but I think it needs the border. A frame around the masterpiece.

Dianne1 03-24-2011 06:52 AM

The colors re outstanding, the pattern reminds me of the storm at sea.

Peggyinno 03-24-2011 07:00 AM

I was thinking about this quilt a few days ago, so I was soooooooooo glad to see you posted on the progress! I LOVE (I wish I could make those letters bigger!!) this quilt. I love the colors, the pattern, everything about it. You did an amazing job!

JanieH 03-24-2011 08:16 AM

Gorgeous quilt! I bought this as a kit as the Houston show years ago. I think it has just moved up on the list of "must do" projects. Thanks for the inspiration!

quiltingal 03-24-2011 08:23 AM

Stunning quilt.

BZEQUILTER 03-24-2011 08:24 AM

I have been seeing your post and the progress of this quilt, it is very nice--I think I need to do one!! I vote for the borders, I think it would give it a nice finish, and I always think bigger is better!! What if she gets a bigger bed??

penski 03-24-2011 08:25 AM

beautiful quilt , i think with or without the borders it will still be beautiful

grannypat7925 03-24-2011 08:47 AM

It is gorgeous. I would leave it as is!

Caroline S 03-24-2011 08:49 AM

How about a plain border using you darkest batik. It would frame your quilt. Only drawback would be that you would have to buy some more fabric if you don't have enough, darn. :P

grammysharon 03-24-2011 09:05 AM

I think a solid looking batik border would set off the piecing. Something very simple. :-)

Delilah 03-24-2011 09:07 AM

Don't know if you're done, I'm sure the border you described would be beautiful but I certainly know how you feel about not wanting to do one more thing on it. I guess the question is this. If you didn't put the border on it will you look back with regret some day?

cbuchanan 03-24-2011 09:18 AM

That is absolutely gorgeous. How could anyone possibly make such an intricate pattern without a pattern? You a way out of my league. That's a quilt I would die to have. You did a beautiful job. I would definitely put a border on it to act as a frame.

mary hennessey 03-24-2011 09:28 AM

So beautiful,just love the colors.

Ok, how about this? A 1" strip of Bali Handpaint in black, a flange in gold, then 3" of the patterend?

sylvia77 03-24-2011 09:37 AM

I envy those people who can make their own patterns just by looking at something, my hats off to you!
