my thoughts, narrow pale blue then a wider dark blue.

wildyard 04-22-2011 10:57 AM

Light then dark borders, darkest blue for binding

cowpie2 04-22-2011 11:43 AM

Wow I really like this layout. Not busy, but interesting to look at.

happymrs 04-22-2011 11:46 AM

Wow, I like, & I am not really into blues, but they seem to be growing on me!...

MamaBear61 04-22-2011 11:52 AM

Beautiful.

grammysharon 04-22-2011 12:42 PM

I love the light and movement in this quilt. Nice layout

CircleSquare 04-22-2011 12:46 PM

Wow! Stunning is the word I would also have to use!

Ann912 04-22-2011 01:05 PM

Wow, it's gorgeous!

oldcatlady 04-22-2011 01:21 PM

Truely beautiful. I would do a narrow inner border of your lightest fabric and a wider outer border of the darkest fabric. I would also do the darkest blue for the binding since that is handled the most and will hide some of the wear.

Great stash fabrics!

Ziva 04-22-2011 01:40 PM

Very pretty quilt. Those blues are very nice!!

franie 04-22-2011 01:47 PM

Beautiful! I don't think it needs a border.

JoanneS 04-22-2011 01:49 PM

I would do a 2-color border - dark next to the dark, and light next to the light. Maybe a narrow folded piece like piping of the opposite color btw the blocks & border.

Absolutely smashine quilt! Of course, blue IS my favorite color!

mzmama 04-22-2011 01:58 PM

Love it!!!

Katts 14 04-22-2011 02:37 PM

Fantastic!!!!!!!!!

Kate01 04-22-2011 02:37 PM

Blue is my favorite color and that is going to be one very beautiful quilt.

Rettie V. Grama 04-22-2011 02:57 PM

I would use a dark border. The white in the design already stands out from the blue and a while border, in my opinion, is all you would see. It is a beuatiful top.

Maria C 04-22-2011 03:20 PM

I love it.

dyer804 04-22-2011 03:51 PM

Beautiful! I showed my son, a fan of blue, and he said that it was one he would even like to use. Quite a compliment coming from a 21 year son male!

malega 04-22-2011 04:00 PM

Love that Blues, It is so very beautiful!!!!!!!!

butterflies5518 04-22-2011 04:38 PM

cool blues - I LOVE blues!

Stitchit123 04-22-2011 04:42 PM

I think just a binding in the lightest fabric would set off the darker hues

Heid 04-22-2011 04:46 PM

Wow - that is just gorgeous! A great mix of blues with light & movement to them...great job. I would think almost any of the fabrics would make a great border(s), so just lay some out and see what strikes you. :D

Nettie Phillips 04-22-2011 04:55 PM

Oooooh, Pretty.

sewmom 04-22-2011 05:15 PM

Sigh.
I always do.

Look how great the lightest lights look right next to the dark squares on that center diagonal. They're GLOWING.

I think a nice wide dark border will just make the whole center sparkle. It's like midnight.

However, conversely, if you used the lightest light on the border, you'd get a whole North Pole frigid feel to it. Which could be very interesting.

So either extreme, not some value in the middle because that would just muddle the whole quilt. One border. Wide.

And matching, not contrasting, binding.

imnsho. ;-) ;)

I agree with all! Your quilt is fabulous. I just love the contrasting darks and lights. I might even be tempted to audition a beautiful larger floral if I could find one in all or mostly blues. It probably doesn't exist - I always dream up the perfect fabric, and then when I go shopping I can't find it. Guess I need to become a fabric designer.

The quilt in my avatar has a blue floral border on it. It was the perfect border for my quilt. I think you might like it on yours too. If you can find just a blue and white floral you should try it first! Lay it out and see!

Your avatar is gorgeous!!! I love the idea of the floral, but the guy that it's for....ummmm.....I better not put floral on this one!

bluesnowdoe 04-22-2011 05:56 PM

I like the layout & colors

do you have a favorite blue print in yardage that you can use as an outer border?

did you consider piano keys or a braid?

this is a great top, depending on what size you want it could be finished as is. JMHO- cw

:) I've actually considered piano keys and have not ruled that out!! I love all of the suggestions and will surely post when it's all done!!

I got the pattern from a book titled Batik Beauties by Laurie Shifrin. The pattern is called Modern Mayhem....I chose my own layout though.

heather1949 04-22-2011 07:34 PM

It is lovely even though I am a Burgandy girl.

Becca Bear 04-22-2011 07:52 PM

Love your quilt. It is so pretty!

rahaube 04-22-2011 08:01 PM

Love all of the blues and really like the layout. I'd suggest a narrow very light border and a wider dark border. You do beautiful work.

Jannie 04-22-2011 09:21 PM

great job

RobertaMarie 04-22-2011 09:24 PM

Oh, my goodness, how beautiful!!! I would love one like that. Just keep on doing whatever you are doing, because it is just perfect.
