bigdogmom 03-08-2011 04:54 PM

Very beautiful and intricate, looks like a winner!

PattyS 03-08-2011 05:06 PM

I think the layout is beautiful and I love your colors.

azam 03-08-2011 05:10 PM

That's going to be a stunning quilt!!! Go for it, can't wait to see the finished product.

gramquilter2 03-08-2011 05:20 PM

Wow, this will make a fantastic quilt. Love the colors and I'm not usually a purple person.

Nettie Phillips 03-08-2011 05:27 PM

I don't know about the fitting in since I have never had one in a
big quilt show but OHHHHHH! It sure is pretty.

Deb G 03-08-2011 05:41 PM

It's going to be stunning.

Cha 03-08-2011 05:44 PM

Vote # 1 for me ...I love the colors they are perfect! It will be an awesome quilt. It has to have a royal name its elegant!

PolkaBabe 03-08-2011 06:24 PM

Design #1 is best.

Nancy O. 03-08-2011 06:37 PM

I love it!!!!!

jitkaau 03-08-2011 06:42 PM

The second version that you posted makes it look like a mouth - sort of like the one in the "Predator" movie, so it is not a appealing for me as the fans going inward. Nice concept. I'm inclined to dislike log cabins as I think they are a bit boring - this one is a stunner. Please keep us tuned in.

Kathy Edwards-Markota 03-08-2011 06:53 PM

This quilt is beyond words. Can you put a tutorial on board. Looks like a combination of log cabin and twisted log cabin and than application! Am I right??? would like to know how much fabric and so on to make this. Please post ;) :P :D

Annz 03-08-2011 06:54 PM

That is gorgeous.

RedGarnet222 03-08-2011 07:04 PM

What?? Nothing special?? Oh I just love your design!

one-and-only 03-08-2011 07:13 PM

I don't reply very often, but I can't resist. Your design is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!! It is definitely a BEST OF SHOW. My only suggestion, if any, would be on the regular log cabin blocks on the left and right of the center there are 2 dark rows and 2 light rows from the small purple square, where on the top and bottom there are 3 dark rows and 1 light row from the small purple square. What would it look like make the left and right side the same as the top and the bottom? Regardless, your design is defininely a winner!

Janquiltz 03-08-2011 07:19 PM

Was getting dizzy looking back and forth between version 1,2,3 - but after all that prefer the first one that you posted. To me it has a lot of movement, and I would call it "Heart's Desire" as the center blocks along the outside edges look like elegant hearts. Then if you decide to use batiks - you can really make this sing even louder! Then with this beautiful a design, you might want to think of some special shape to the outside border - not scallops, but something with movement that compliments the wonderful shapes of the design. Just a few thoughts. Keep us posted - I'm going to keep an eye on this one for sure.

kathome 03-08-2011 08:55 PM

seasaw2mch 03-08-2011 09:52 PM

I think it looks great in design and I'm sure it will look even better once it's put into fabrics.

BevF 03-08-2011 09:58 PM

That's pretty! I like the colors as they are. I'm anxious to see what you find at the LQS and your progress!

Thank you so much everyone for all your input - you have been so helpful (even you Gai! ) And thanks for pointing out that I had the fabrics wrong - I hadn't noticed. Anyway, taking on board all that has been said and a few more hours work this morning, here is, by my reckoning, Version 13... anyone superstitious?

I really wasn't happy with the four corners of the centre four blocks of version one, plus I didn't like the medallion effect created by the centre of regular log cabins, so I've made that more roundy by making the corners of that section black and when I make this, with my own applique design, I will start the flowers' stems to radiate out from the greyish curving part.

I liked the suggestion for shaped borders and may try something with the corner sections, don't know yet...

I'm sorry but I can't do a tute for this - it would take forever and I can't spare the time, However when I've made the quilt myself, maybe I can come up with a version of it as a pattern to purchase if there was any interest. This would assume a knowledge of not only regular piecing but also Paper Piecing and Applique though... :-D

Just noticed that we're on page 13 - now I'm REALLY superstitious! Perhaps I should call it 'The Thirteenth' LOL

one-and-only 03-09-2011 06:33 AM

It is still gorgeous!! I still like the 1st one, but you must do what feels good to you! Hurry out to the fabric shop, and relieve some of that designing stress. You can always fine tune along the way if you need to. You have a stunning design. Keep us posted.

missgigglewings 03-09-2011 06:35 AM

It sure is beautiful! It would also make a great Round Robin Center!

karenpatrick 03-09-2011 06:39 AM

Gorgeous but looks really complicated!! Way beyond my expertise. Will love to watch as you progress. Good luck. Wish I could do something like this.

The colours are vague as well and might change once I get in an LQS but I'm thinking batiks... this would be for the contemporary section of the Festival of Quilts, which asked for a modern take on traditional quilting. Does this fit the bill? I thought to regular piece the LCs, PP the twisted, machine applique and FMQ to be decided... any comments gratefully received and when the design is finalised, I'd like to post progress so you can all nag, ermmm, I mean, ENCOURAGE me to finish it in time for August!

That is one amazing quilt! Stunning.
