This my first true quilt square. It's a bit wonky. But I am really proud of it. It's going into a friend's quilt.

Looks great, I like the pattern, I agree that it's not wonky, it's a little off but with your color choice and the design, once it's all pieced it won't be noticeable

mom-6 01-16-2011 08:03 AM

Beautiful! Keep up the good work...you are rightfully proud.

remclave 01-16-2011 08:09 AM

Wow! You are all so kind! :) As for the parts that do look good, I credit the fantastic tutorial resources that are on the Quilting Board. :D

really nice!!

remclave 01-16-2011 08:17 AM

I drew the design on my computer before I cut any fabric. I am happy that I achieved the effect that I did. I was going to orient the heart straight up and down but changed the orientation to diagonal at the last minute. Thank you again.

I like the diagonal placement :) I did the same thing with hearts that I hand appliqued on my DD's Valentine's Day (her birthday!) quilt. I think it adds some interest.

You did a great job on the block :) Be sure to let us see the finished quilt before you give it to your friend.

Scrapquilt 01-16-2011 08:49 AM

Where is the wonky? Be proud, be brave, be a quilter!

I've given it to the person who will be assembling a quilt from the one I made as well as the ones from the other ladies in my group. So, I'm looking forward to seeing the finished quilt too.

Good work!!! I don't see anything wonky about it. My first 8 blocks are the curtain in front of me. They are nowhere near as good.

I do wonder, however, are you using 1/4" seams? If you are using a wider seam, as it appears to me, you will have problems with future blocks, as 1/4" is the usual in quilting.

quiltingfriendseeker 01-16-2011 10:45 AM

I like it, doesn't look like a first time project. you did good.

Yeah, I realized after I sewed my first seams that I was sewing 3/8". In order to be able to finish the square without spending hours ripping out seams, I finished the square with 3/8" which also kept the square, well, SQUARE. After I finished the basic pinwheel, I measured the square at 8" by 8" so I added the border in the same fabric that I used for the heart. The border was sewn down with 1/4" seams. And yes, I was surprised and thrilled at how well the color combination worked.

lisalovesquilting 01-16-2011 12:24 PM

It's great. Very neat and tidy.

BizzieLizzie 01-16-2011 12:45 PM

Beautiful block!

IDquilter 01-16-2011 01:04 PM

you did a great job, nothing wonky about it. Nice and neat, can't say that about some of mine.

ann clare 01-16-2011 01:06 PM

Beautiful. Well done.

That is exactly what I would have done. Of course, as I said, MY first block, a 9 patch, wasn't anywhere near as good as yours. I expect to see lots more really great work from you in the future.
